West Campus President<\/a><\/span> Beverly Moore-Garcia was awarded the Paragon Award at Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society\u2019s Catalyst 2021 virtual convention on April 8-10.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The award recognizes 25 new college presidents who have strongly supported their students. Since its inception three years ago, the PTK chapter at West Campus has received a five-star ranking.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI really was overwhelmed, surprised and mostly humbled,\u201d Moore-Garcia said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Moore-Garcia started her career at Miami Dade College as chair of North Campus\u2019 College Prep Department in 1998. She served as an associate dean at North Campus and academic provost at Wolfson Campus before moving to British Columbia, Canada, to become the vice president of Northwest Community College in 2010.<\/span><\/p>\n

She came back to MDC in 2013. Moore-Garcia worked as vice provost for Academic Affairs at Wolfson Campus before serving as Kendall Campus president from 2015 through 2019.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Moore-Garcia graduated from the University of Windsor in Ontario, Canada, with a bachelor\u2019s degree in psychology in 1983. She studied international economics at the University of Basel in Switzerland for a year before earning a master\u2019s degree in school psychology from Texas State University in 1987.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She also earned a master\u2019s degree in international development education and a doctorate degree in higher education administration, both from Florida International University.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
