Miami Dade College\u2019s School for Advanced Studies <\/span>has been ranked as the fifth best high school in the nation<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u2014and tops in Florida\u2014by the U.S.<\/span> News & World Report<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s an incredible honor and I think it’s a reflection of the hard work that is put in every single day by our students, our teachers and our personnel,\u201d said SAS Principal Omar Monteagudo. \u201cIt’s a validation of the work that we do and the curriculum that we have in place\u2014it is demanding, very rigorous and [prepares] students for post secondary instruction.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

SAS is a selective program for high school juniors and seniors, who take advanced placement and college courses to graduate with a high school diploma and an associate\u2019s degree at the same time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The program includes almost 800 students across the Wolfson, North, Kendall, West and Homestead campuses. Many of them are admitted to the nation\u2019s top schools and receive scholarships from prestigious organizations like the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe have not only prepared students academically and for them to be able to transition to a post secondary institution, but I think that we have also created model citizens individuals that are aware of their surroundings,\u201d Monteagudo said.<\/span><\/p>\n
