The Reporter<\/span><\/i>\u2014<\/span>the student newspaper at Miami Dade College<\/span>\u2014has been selected as a 2021 Pacemaker finalist in the two-year <\/span>college newspaper category.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Pacemaker\"Pacemakers are regarded as the top national award for student journalists. They are selected by the Associated Collegiate Press.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a reflection of our hard work,\u201d said Adriana Dos Santos, who served as the paper\u2019s editor-in-chief last year. \u201cDespite working virtually for most of the year, we kept our community informed. Our staff showed up with a great attitude and did their best.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Five finalists were selected in the two-year category<\/span><\/a><\/span>. Papers were judged based on content produced during the 2020-21 school year.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIn addition to demonstrating excellence in key areas including coverage, writing, editing, design and photography, the winning newspapers took risks and served as a strong voice for the student audience,\u201d according to a press release announcing the finalists.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Reporter<\/span><\/i> has been a Pacemaker finalist six of the last 11 years, including the last three, but it hasn’t won the prize since 2014<\/span><\/a>. The paper, which was established in 2010, also won the award in 2013.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This year’s winners will be announced virtually on Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. during the <\/span>Fall National College Media Convention<\/span><\/a><\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
