Emily Sendin, an English, literature and creative writing professor at the Eduardo J. Padr\u00f3n Campus was awarded the Media Literacy Award by the National Council of Teachers of English during a virtual ceremony on Oct. 21.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The award recognizes one professor each year who implements innovative approaches and incorporates media into their teachings.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cTeaching is my calling, my life’s passion,\u201d Sendin said. \u201cThe classroom is my refuge and my respite.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Since becoming a Miami Dade College professor in 1999, Sendin has implemented media literacy in her teaching, whether it is through defining fake news or by explaining logical fallacies. She is also the founding adviser of <\/span>Urbana<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/a>, Padr\u00f3n Campus\u2019 hybrid literary arts student-run magazine.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sendin earned a bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s degree in English language and literature from Florida International University.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
