{"id":30209,"date":"2021-11-15T08:55:46","date_gmt":"2021-11-15T13:55:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/?p=30209"},"modified":"2025-08-11T10:39:56","modified_gmt":"2025-08-11T14:39:56","slug":"astroworld-tragedy-brings-concert-safety-to-forefront","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/astroworld-tragedy-brings-concert-safety-to-forefront\/","title":{"rendered":"Astroworld Tragedy Brings Concert Safety To Forefront"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Nov. 5, Travis Scott headlined his annual Astroworld Festival in Houston, Texas where more than 50,000 people attended.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During his performance, the crowd rushed the stage causing hundreds to be injured and bringing fatal chaos with the disorder.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To date, <\/span><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/entertainment\/2021\/11\/14\/astroworld-deaths-9-year-old-boy-dies-after-being-placed-coma\/8589450002\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">10 deaths have been associated with the incident.<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many fans have recounted Astroworld as a chaotic and a suffocating environment. Videos show that despite people shouting for help and medical vehicles driving through the audience, Scott was adamant on continuing the concert.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although there\u2019s a moment when he told the crowd to help someone who had passed out, he starts singing \u201cyes\u201d over and over again and continues performing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The right thing to do would\u2019ve been to stop the show and tell fans to back away from the bodies on the floor so they could be escorted safely.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But I also believe the audience is to blame. It appears to me that common sense and human decency isn\u2019t common anymore. People were dancing on top of the ambulance and refused to make room for those trying to help the injured.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a video to his fans after the incident, Scott said he \u201ccould never imagine the severity of the situation\u201d and that he was confused when an ambulance arrived at the scene.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Houston officials, the show ended 30 minutes ahead of schedule, but more than 40 minutes after the crowd crush started.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It makes me sick to my stomach to see people worship celebrities who are nothing more than ordinary individuals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For those saying we can\u2019t blame Scott, we absolutely can. Artists need to realize that they have power and control over fans at concerts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a regular concertgoer, I have never seen the type of disturbing behavior that broke out at Astroworld.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many of the concerts I\u2019ve attended have had mosh pits form and crowd surfing, but not once have I witnessed people being so inhumane.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Concert etiquette consists of taking care of one another, regardless of where or who you are. It means that if someone falls down, you pick them up or if someone needs a breather, you help escort them out.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Concerts are places where people are meant to have a good time, not die.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hopefully, this incident will be a wake-up call for other artists.
