Miami Dade College\u2019s Homestead Campus will host an on-campus ceremony on Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. to designate Building A as the <\/span>Dr. Roy G. Phillips Center<\/span><\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Roy Gene Phillips served as the Campus\u2019 founding president. He continually advocated for students to have access to academic opportunities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The 26,828 square foot facility, where Phillips had his office for more than a decade, currently houses the Student Life Department, admissions, advising and registration.<\/span><\/p>\n

Efforts to rename the building began a month after his passing in January of 2021 when Carmen Morris, the director of communications at Homestead Campus during Phillips\u2019 time there, created an online petition that obtained more than 2,600 signatures.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
