North Campus received a $1,800 grant from the Florida Wildflower Foundation to establish an ecosystem for the conservation of South Florida native plants.<\/span><\/p>\n

Students and faculty began developing the garden, which is in front of the Science Complex and next to the greenhouse, in September. More than 20 Pine Rocklands species have been planted including Coontie, Croton linearis and the state-endangered species Havana skullcap.<\/span><\/p>\n

The initiative was spearheaded by Sonali Saha, a biology and environmental science professor at North Campus. Students use the space to host controlled experiments using different species that are grown there.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just a place for some tranquility and teaching environmental science and botany,\u201d Saha said.<\/span><\/p>\n
