{"id":31102,"date":"2022-03-24T18:02:46","date_gmt":"2022-03-24T22:02:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/?p=31102"},"modified":"2022-03-25T12:16:13","modified_gmt":"2022-03-25T16:16:13","slug":"competition-gives-three-entrepreneurs-a-chance-to-run-their-own-food-truck","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/competition-gives-three-entrepreneurs-a-chance-to-run-their-own-food-truck\/","title":{"rendered":"Competition Gives Three Entrepreneurs A Chance To Run Their Own Food Truck"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And the winners are\u2026\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nancy Guerrier, Tywanda Dupont and Clarence Davis.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The three food aficionados won the Miami-Dade County <\/span><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/this-14-week-program-will-teach-you-how-to-operate-a-food-truck-business\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Food Truck Enterprise Program<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> competition\u2014a free 14-week competition-style course at the Miami Culinary Institute\u2014that affords the winners the opportunity to either lease or purchase a food truck.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The food trucks, which will be located at the <\/span><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gobrightline.com\/miami\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MiamiCentral Brightline station<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, will be equipped with a griddle, a gas stove with four burners, a refrigerator, a cooler, a conventional oven and two warmers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nearly 30 participants competed for the prize. Each contestant was required to have previous culinary work experience, a business plan for a food truck enterprise and participate in an interview. They were taught personal development, customer service, food sanitation, marketing and how to financially support their business. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><b>Nancy Guerrier <\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_31115\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-31115\" style=\"width: 206px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-31115\" src=\"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Nancy-Guerrier1-crop-206x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"206\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Nancy-Guerrier1-crop-206x300.jpg 206w, https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Nancy-Guerrier1-crop.jpg 502w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 206px) 100vw, 206px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-31115\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">GUERRIER<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nancy Guerrier\u2019s\u00a0passion for cooking was ignited by her father\u2019s cooking and the TV series <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Iron Chef<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Soon after, her dad encouraged her to pursue a career in the culinary field.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Guerrier began working on the idea to run a food truck business with her dad in 2014, but he passed away last year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now, she will be able to live out their vision.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI\u2019m still in the moment,\u201d Guerrier said. \u201cThis is God\u2019s blessing to me.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Guerrier, who has 17 years of culinary experience, has worked as a cook, shift manager, cashier and a food runner at various restaurants and fast-food chains.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She earned an associate\u2019s degree in hospitality tourism management from Wolfson Campus in 2017. In April, she will complete the chef apprentice program at the campus.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Guerrier is scheduled to open her food truck business within the next month. She developed a fondness for the craft thanks to her mother. After having kids, Dupont sought to maintain her mother\u2019s penchant for home-cooked meals. When she noticed that her children loved her breakfasts, she began to specialize in creating brunch-like menus and French toast recipes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since then, her culinary repertoire has expanded to include southern cooking and seafood.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After taking a hospitality management and catering class at <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">William H. Turner Technical Arts High School<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Dupont started catering events. She has also worked as a meal prepper.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dupont is currently enrolled in the chef apprentice program at Wolfson Campus.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Her food truck\u2014Ty\u2019s Hometown Caf\u00e9 and Bistro\u2014will officially open within the next month. He recalls hunting for wild deer and bulls with his grandparents and collecting wild plants in the Appalachian Mountains to cook.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since then, Davis has continued his culinary journey by specializing in exotic cuisine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMy thing is not necessarily one type of dish,\u201d Davis said. \u201cI just like to include [flavors] from different places all over the world.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Davis\u2019 food truck\u201413 Pirates Eat\u2014will carry a menu that will specialize in serving exotic dishes such as pineapple rice, soft shell crab, alligator tail and blacktip shark.
