Lolisa Torbert began her role as the new Honors College student success coach at Kendall Campus on April 18.<\/span><\/p>\n

Torbert, 33, will assist students with advisement, scholarship research, applications and social programming. She will also lead the Honors College Student Ambassador Program.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI really enjoy knowing that my work is purposeful,\u201d Torbert said. \u201cI think that [is] complete with the student success coach position.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Torbert started working at Miami Dade College in 2019 as a pre-admissions advisor at Kendall Campus. In March of 2020, she became the student life program coordinator at Homestead Campus.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After being crowned Mrs. Florida U.S. Continental, Torbert created and led the first <\/span>Homestead Campus pageant<\/span><\/a><\/span> last December as a way to encourage people to participate in the annual toy drive.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Before coming to MDC, she taught math at Felix Varela Senior High School for seven years.<\/span><\/p>\n

Torbert earned her bachelor\u2019s degree in mathematics and journalism with a minor in sociology from the University of Miami in 2012.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
