{"id":32315,"date":"2022-07-25T13:00:23","date_gmt":"2022-07-25T17:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/\/?p=32315"},"modified":"2022-07-25T16:20:19","modified_gmt":"2022-07-25T20:20:19","slug":"its-ok-to-do-nothing-sometimes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/its-ok-to-do-nothing-sometimes\/","title":{"rendered":"It\u2019s OK To Do Nothing Sometimes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We live in a world of constant movement. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whether it&#8217;s a new internship, job or project, there is always pressure to perform. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, sometimes doing nothing is just as important as doing something. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After enrolling at Miami Dade College, I was ready to take over the world. I got ahead in classes as much as possible and enlisted in every club that piqued my interest. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I became part of five different clubs and organizations: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/\/\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Reporter<\/span><\/i><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, student government, debate, the psychology club and model United Nations. At my peak, I held four leadership positions. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My thirst for involvement earned me the respect of my peers. Some even saw me as a role model. That view was far from a reality. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Being involved in everything consumed the time I had for myself. And while I liked the fast-paced life at first, I began to struggle with managing my responsibilities. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The worst part was that when I needed a break I couldn\u2019t take one. As soon as one task was finished, another one popped up in the queue. Eventually, my motivation and work efficiency decreased and it started taking me longer to handle my responsibilities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I was burning out. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That happens when we don\u2019t balance our life properly. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My mistake was placing my efforts solely into my academics while neglecting my personal life. I naively thought that my initial burst of motivation would carry me through everything. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Realizing this, I started to balance my life again. I prioritized what was important to me. I remain involved in what I\u2019m most passionate about\u2014the newspaper and the psychology club.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This allowed me to give more attention to what remained on my plate while reconnecting with myself. I allowed myself to have days in which I did nothing productive. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I played my favorite video games, exercised and socialized with friends and family. At first it felt wrong, but then my motivation came back. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By doing less, I was able to do more. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I still have responsibilities. On top of taking care of myself and my academics, I will serve as editor-in-chief of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Reporter<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and president of the Kendall Campus psychology club this upcoming academic year. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The difference now is that I\u2019m aware of my limits and know how much work is too much. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don\u2019t let the outside pressure get to you.
