The rising popularity of streaming services has prompted hot-button discussions surrounding the purpose, preservation and importance of movie theaters<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

With companies like <\/span>Netflix<\/span><\/span><\/a> and <\/span>HBO<\/span><\/span><\/a> raking in billions through their exclusive original movies and series, many have posed the question: Why leave your home to watch a movie at all?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Located in the heart of Miami Beach, the Rooftop Cinema Club, 1212 Lincoln Road, not only provides an answer but lays the blueprint for a new era of film watching without an online subscription.<\/span><\/p>\n

The cinema, which has received rave reviews from South Beach residents, officially opened on June 2.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIts immersive rooftop element provides a beautiful view and a refreshing ocean breeze,\u201d said Amber Walters, a recent visitor to the RCC. \u201cCompared to bigger chains, they make it very clear that you\u2019re family from the second you walk in.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Aside from a gorgeous view of the Miami skyline, the RCC offers relaxing deckchairs, a scenic concession stand and bar and what I believe to be their most unique feature, personal headphones.\u00a0
\n<\/b><\/span>
\n<\/span>The wireless headphones allow you to immerse yourself in the film without the distraction of chitter-chatter or popcorn munching.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

My main complaint with the cinema is its age restriction. You must be 18 years or older to participate in the festivities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This eliminates a substantial market of consumers looking to have a good time at the movies: families. If they feature films such as <\/span>Goonies <\/span><\/i>or future showings of <\/span>Harry Potter and the Sorcerer\u2019s Stone<\/span><\/i>, this is a missed opportunity.<\/span><\/p>\n

Regardless of that, the Rooftop Cinema Club is a much-needed\u00a0 addition for any dedicated motion picture connoisseur; it will add life to the way we consume films for decades.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ticket prices range from $20 to $30. Students are eligible for a 10% discount with an active student ID or their academic schedule. <\/span><\/p>\n
