Her trauma, which she carries as she navigates through high school, is relieved by her therapist, friends and family. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Her journey teaches viewers a valuable lesson: It\u2019s okay to seek help and have bad days. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But more importantly, the show sheds light on how first-generation teenage Americans navigate mental health issues.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When people don\u2019t see themselves in mainstream media, they can feel isolated and lonely. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Never Have I Ever<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> lets underrepresented teens know they aren\u2019t alone. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Devi\u2019s discussions about her mental health issues during the show highlight the reality that our conversations about mental health aren\u2019t inclusive enough. We must do better for future generations to come. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The show has also served as an empowerment tool for minority representation. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maitreyi Ramakrishnan\u2014the Canadian actress that plays Devi\u2014<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/youtube.com\/shorts\/hOrG73PKvOc?feature=share\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">said<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in an interview on YouTube with On Demand Entertainment that it hit close to home to see a South Asian lead be desired for the first time in an industry that is heavily Eurocentric.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The show also does a good job of referencing popular culture topics that are relatable to anyone regardless of age. That relatability factor is notable for promoting greater inclusivity. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The third season of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Never Have I Ever<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> premiered on Netflix on Aug. 12.
