Miami Dade College student publications\u2014<\/span>AXIS, Miambiance<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>Urbana<\/span><\/i>\u2014have been selected as finalists for the College Media Association\u2019s Pinnacle Award in the Two-Year Literary Magazine of the Year category<\/a><\/span>.<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

The contest recognizes excellence in student work produced during the 2021-22 academic school year that was created for magazines, newspapers, websites, yearbooks and radio or television stations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Winners will be announced during <\/span>Mediafest22: The Fall National College Media Convention<\/span><\/a><\/span> at the Grand Hyatt Washington in Washington D.C. on Oct. 27 at 5:30 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe students really made an effort to be the voice of the campus,\u201d said Emily Sendin, who served as the advisor to <\/span>Urbana<\/span><\/i>\u2014the<\/span> literary arts hybrid magazine at Eduardo J. Padr\u00f3n Campus\u2014when the entries were made. \u201c[We] are really proud to represent our community at the national level.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Urbana,<\/span><\/i> launched in 2007, <\/span>won a Pinnacle Award last year<\/span><\/a><\/span> in the Two-Year Literary Magazine of the Year category and individual Pinnacles for Best Social Media Presence, Best Social Media Strategy and second place for Best Magazine Cover.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This year, they are finalists for individual Pinnacles in the Best Social Media Strategy and Best Social Media Presence categories.<\/span><\/p>\n

Miambiance,<\/span><\/i> founded in 1989, is the literary arts magazine at Kendall Campus. They have been an organizational Pinnacle finalist four years in a row and they <\/span>won the honor recently in 2019 and 2020.\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a great achievement,\u201d said Diego Franco, the lead designer for Miambiance<\/i>. \u201cHard work pays off.\u201d<\/p>\n

The magazine is also a finalist in the Best Photo Illustration category this year.<\/span><\/p>\n

AXIS<\/span><\/i> is the literary arts magazine at North Campus. It was created in 2002 and was a Pinnacle finalist in 2018, 2019 and 2020, winning the honor for the <\/span>2017-18 school year<\/span><\/a><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition<\/span>, <\/span><\/i>Ammy Sanchez, who served as <\/span>The Reporter\u2019s <\/span><\/i>editor-in-chief last year, was selected as a Pinnacle Award finalist in the Best Profile category.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 19-year-old was selected based on a story she wrote about an 11-year-old boy, <\/span>Noah Thomas<\/span><\/a><\/span>, who is taking dual enrollment classes at Miami Dade College.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sanchez, who is now a junior at Florida International University studying organizational communications, is the only finalist from a two-year school in the category. The other finalists are students from Augustana University, Baylor University and Emporia State University.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBeing able to write stories about people like Noah who have such bright futures inspired me throughout my time at <\/span>The Reporter<\/span><\/i>,\u201d Sanchez said. \u201cSo to be recognized for doing something that I enjoyed so much, is surreal.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
