{"id":32988,"date":"2022-10-04T12:00:57","date_gmt":"2022-10-04T16:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/\/?p=32988"},"modified":"2022-10-05T13:03:55","modified_gmt":"2022-10-05T17:03:55","slug":"miami-dade-colleges-school-of-education-appoints-new-dean","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/miami-dade-colleges-school-of-education-appoints-new-dean\/","title":{"rendered":"Miami Dade College\u2019s School Of Education Appoints New Dean"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carmen Concepci\u00f3n was appointed as the dean of Miami Dade College\u2019s School of Education in September.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Concepci\u00f3n will oversee the Early Childhood Education, K-12 Teacher Education Program and Center for Professional Development Departments within the School of Education. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMy goal is to continue growing the School of Education so we can better meet the needs of our public schools and leave a positive impact on students,\u201d Concepci\u00f3n said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She started her career in education at Miami-Dade County Public Schools in 1993. During a 13-year run, she taught social studies at Miami Springs Middle School and English as a second language at Lawton Chiles Middle School.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From 2007 to 2008, Concepci\u00f3n served as a Florida Literacy and Reading Excellence Center coordinator at the University of Central Florida. In August of 2008, she returned to MDCPS for a 13-year stint, working as a professional development specialist, an instructional supervisor, executive director for the office of professional development and evaluation and as a reading specialist at Hialeah Gardens High School.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the past year, she worked as a staff development director at Florida Virtual School.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Concepci\u00f3n has an associate&#8217;s degree in education from MDC, a bachelor\u2019s degree in social studies education from Florida International University, a master\u2019s degree in teaching English as a second language from Nova Southeastern University and a doctorate degree in K-12 administration from the College of William &amp; Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Carmen Concepci\u00f3n was appointed as the dean of Miami Dade College\u2019s School of Education in September.
