The distinctive cry in her voice when belting out notes makes it feel\u00a0 like she\u2019s holding her emotions in. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The instrumentals complement her atmosphere through muffled electric guitars, hard-hitting drums and grungy synths that sound like the polished sounds of the new millennium. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Surrender\u2019s<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> second half reverses the atmosphere. We are no longer in the passionate love story of a teenage rom-com. Instead, we have reached the movie\u2019s final scenes, where the sad yet hopeful sounds pull your heartstrings. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The production also feels stripped back. It retains a cohesive soundscape by using the same instruments and sounds. However, they\u2019ve now taken a step into Roger\u2019s more intimate voice.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite the lighthearted instrumentation, the lyrics hit on\u00a0 the dark side of being sensitive. She <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">seems more distanced from the confidence displayed at the start of the album.
