Current selections range from classics like Cuban, Italian and BLT sandwiches to house specialties such as the Tinta Y Caf\u00e9 sandwich, which features pork, manchego cheese and caramelized onions. BRIANNA ACEVEDO \/ THE REPORTER<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This summer, the bistro, which relocated to Coral Gables in 2015, was one of 65 Miami-based restaurants featured in the<\/span><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/guide.michelin.com\/us\/en\/best-of\/best-cuban-restaurants-miami\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Michelin Guide<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a publication that highlights culinary excellence.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The catalog also awarded Tinta Y Caf\u00e9, a Big Gourmand award for its affordable prices.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt\u2019s like winning an Olympic gold medal,\u201d said Sachi, who earned an associate&#8217;s degree from the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdc.edu\/culinary\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Miami Culinary Institute<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 2016. \u201cIt\u2019s very surreal.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sachi, who grew up consuming episodes of the Food Network and the Cooking Channel, has served as the restaurant&#8217;s owner since 2015. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to the quaint location in Coral Gables, Sachi added a second restaurant in Miami Shores in 2017.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Inside the Coral Gables cafeteria, guests are greeted by a mid-century modern aesthetic accented with old typewriters, vintage cameras, a large collection of art books and minimalist furniture in muted and vibrant colors.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The decor was influenced by Neli\u2019s love of newspapers, literature, art and European Caf\u00e9s. To encourage people to socialize, the restaurant doesn\u2019t offer Wi-Fi and has a no-laptop policy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt feels like home,\u201d said Javier Ramos, who has been a customer for the past three years. \u201cWhen you\u2019re inside it&#8217;s very comfortable and sociable.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #cc99ff;\"><b>Family Cuisine<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The restaurant offers more than 20 sandwich options, seven salad choices, two breakfast menus and a daily soup special.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Salads cost about $14 and include Caprese, Mediterranean and Honey Mustard Chicken. The soup of the day can be had for less than $8 and is served from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sandwich selections range from classics like Cuban, Italian and BLT sandwiches and house specialties such as the Tinta Y Caf\u00e9 sandwich, which features pork, manchego cheese and caramelized onions. Cost ranges from $10 to $14. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Orders are created in an open-design kitchen which features a six-burner stove, two panini presses and two separate stations to store vegetables for salads and prepare sandwiches.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The kitchen is led by Brazilian chef Victor Santos, who met Sachi while teaching at Miami Dade College, where he served as the executive chef at <a href=\"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/tuyo-takes-part-in-miami-spice\/\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Tuyo<\/span><\/a>\u2014MCI\u2019s fine dining restaurant.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After being laid off by the Grove Bay Hospitality Group, where he served as head chef, Sachi offered him an opportunity to work at Tinta y Caf\u00e9.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI have customers who come here every single day,\u201d said Santos, who helps prepare about 100 orders daily. \u201cIt&#8217;s nice to be part of somebody&#8217;s daily routine.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #cc99ff;\"><b>Love For Coffee<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_33151\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-33151\" style=\"width: 334px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-33151\" src=\"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/tinta_y_cafe_4_web.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"334\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/tinta_y_cafe_4_web.jpg 667w, https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/tinta_y_cafe_4_web-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 334px) 100vw, 334px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-33151\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Coffee Lovers: Tinta y Caf\u00e9 offers one of the few coffee ventanitas in Coral Gables. The space includes a commercial espresso machine and a stand for pastries such as pastelitos, croquetas and pandebono.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The coffee flows at the counter under the direction of Yaima C\u00f3rdova, who started working at Tinta y Caf\u00e9 eight years ago after Sachi took notice of her barista skills at El Arepazo\u2014a local Venezuelan restaurant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coffee is in the 41-year-old C\u00f3rdova\u2019s blood. In her hometown of Sancti Spiritus, her grandmother, Arminda Macias, is known for uniting the community with her strong Cuban coffee.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c[It] has always been a part of my family,\u201d C\u00f3rdoba said. \u201cWhen I wake up in the morning my favorite thing to do is prepare myself a coffee.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Her love for the craft attracts dozens of customers like Peter Rivero and Eduardo Oropeza.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The duo visits C\u00f3rdoba two to three times a week to quench their coffee cravings.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt\u2019s very detailed from all the other coffees that I\u2019ve tried,\u201d said Oropeza, whose go-to order is a cortadito. \u201cI love the flavor.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tinta y Caf\u00e9\u2019s path to success was not an easy one.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With no prior culinary experience, the family learned to operate a restaurant from scratch.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They transitioned from handwritten orders to allowing customers to order digitally.
