The 39th annual rendition of the <\/span>Miami Book Fair<\/span><\/a><\/span> will host more than 100 renowned authors from across the globe at Wolfson Campus from Nov. 13\u201320.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEvery year it\u2019s a completely different Book Fair,\u201d said MBF Director of Programs Lissette Mendez. \u201cThere are different conversations to be had, different books to read and different authors to meet.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Writers, journalists, and poets set to appear include famous actor and playwright <\/span>Harvey Fierstein<\/b><\/span>, former <\/span>New York Time<\/span><\/i>s reporter and civil rights activist <\/span>Charlayne Hunter-Gault<\/b><\/span> and award-winning Indian American author and poet <\/span>Chitra Banarjee Divakaruni<\/b><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Also featured will be prominent figures in the music industry such as “punk poet laureate” <\/span>Patti Smith<\/b><\/span> and New York City-based rapper and producer <\/span>Jose \u201cFat Joe\u201d Cartagena<\/b><\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The popular <\/span>Evenings With<\/span><\/i> series will include former <\/span>Saturday Night Live <\/span><\/i>comedian <\/span>Kevin Nealon<\/b><\/span>, former University of Miami, Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins football coach <\/span>Jimmy Johnson<\/b><\/span> and Pulitzer prize-winning physician, biologist and author <\/span>Siddhartha Mukherjee<\/b><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

For the first time in its history, the Book Fair will host ReadingEast\u2014a program exploring Middle Eastern and South Asian culture through conversations with fiction, nonfiction and poetry authors.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It will include speakers such as Iranian-American scholar and Emmy-and Peabody-nominated producer <\/span>Reza Aslan<\/b><\/span> and Bangladeshi-American poet and writer <\/span>Anuradha Bhowmik<\/b><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is one of our goals,\u201d Mendez said. \u201cTo make sure people in Miami are in touch with what\u2019s going on around the world.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Aimed at Miami\u2019s Hispanic community, the IberoAmerican Program will present panel events showcasing Spanish-speaking presenters. Presenters include famous Colombian musician <\/span>Juanes<\/b><\/span> and Cuban exiled journalist <\/span>Carlos Alberto Montaner<\/b><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Former Ecuadorian president <\/span>Jamil Mahuad<\/span>, <\/b>who was ousted from power during a military revolt in 2000, <\/span>will speak about the dollarization of his country\u2019s economy during his tenure as head of state.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The ReadCaribbean series will present reading discussions, workshops and children’s programming that explores the Caribbean Diaspora.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Culminating the festivities will be the popular three-day Street Fair that will take place from Nov. 18-20. Hosted at Wolfson Campus from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. it will showcase books, handmade goods and live music. Admission will be free for everyone on Nov. 18.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Featured attractions at the Street Fair include The Children\u2019s Alley, which will host activities such as arts and crafts, storytelling, plays and musical performances.<\/span><\/p>\n

Artists such as <\/span>DJ Carlos Menendez<\/b><\/span>, the <\/span>Miami Beach Rock Ensemble<\/b><\/span> and electro-funk band <\/span>Sol and The Tribu<\/i><\/b><\/span> will be featured at The Off The Shelf music festival at Kyriakides Place on NE 1st Ave. Musical performances will take place throughout the three-day Street Fair<\/span><\/p>\n

On Nov. 19 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., Off The Shelf will host a poetry panel featuring presidential inaugural poet <\/span>Richard Blanco<\/b><\/span>, award-winning writer <\/span>Sandra Cisneros<\/b><\/span> and Miami-Dade County Mayor <\/span>Daniella Levine Cava<\/b><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Miami Dade College students, faculty and staff can attend the Street Fair for free by using their MDC ID. Entrance fees for non-MDC attendees are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors; children under 12 are admitted for free.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
