He helps with offensive and defensive tactics. This past year, the Lady Sharks came within one win of a national title.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHe is a hard worker, a great coach and he\u2019s always there to help the team get better,\u201d\u00a0 said Lady Sharks Head Coach Origenes \u201cKiko\u201d Benoit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">M\u00e1rquez has also served as the Miami Volleyball Academy head coach since 2020 and just finished his first season as head coach of the girl\u2019s volleyball team at Archbishop Coleman F. Carroll High School where he coaches his daughter, Ivaney.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before embarking on a coaching career, M\u00e1rquez played volleyball professionally for 17 years,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">competing in Italy, Brazil, Greece, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spain, Portugal, France, Belgium, Finland and Argentina. In 2008, the middle blocker, who got his nickname\u2014<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bomba<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014because of his powerful spikes, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">represented his home country of Venezuela at the 2008 Olympics.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Miami Dade College assistant volleyball coach Iv\u00e1n \u201cBomba\u201d M\u00e1rquez was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association 2022 Assistant Coach of the Year.\u00a0 The 41-year-old has been an assistant coach at MDC for the past three years.
