It tells us who we are and what we should be.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As with everyone, I\u2019ve been a victim of this countless times. From being told what career I should study by others to being told what I should wear as a young woman.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When I first started at Miami Dade College this past fall as an English major, I was confused about my career choice and had an unbalanced schedule. But after meeting with my advisor, all my worries faded away.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From the moment I first met with my advisor, the environment instantly became stress-free due to the attention I was given. Unsurprisingly, all my worries had faded away by the end of the meeting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s when I realized the importance of seeking advice and planning with guidance. I knew I needed to make real changes if I wanted to achieve my goals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While it seems easy to seek help when we have a problem, students I\u2019ve spoken to claim that most of their peers are afraid to ask for help out of embarrassment or confusion.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some won\u2019t reach out for help, even if they don\u2019t know what their academic pathway is.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So I want to encourage you to ask questions, talk to people and get help if you have any doubts or concerns. Faculty and staff are here to help, they just need you to take the initiative.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If we don\u2019t take hold of the future we dream of, we might stay stuck in bitter silence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We need to display the passion and hunger necessary to make the world a better place for ourselves and future generations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The world will always push us into roles we do not fit into by telling us who we should be. However, it&#8217;s our responsibility to push back and claim our identity.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seeking out an advisor to help with your future is not something to be embarrassed or ashamed of. It is your future and if you do not take hold of it, it will not wait for you.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As former President <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/about-the-white-house\/presidents\/abraham-lincoln\/\">Abraham Lincoln<\/a> <\/span>said to the crowds in Washington D.C. in 1865, \u201cthe best way to predict your future is to create it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nothing is more valuable than our future.
