Lorenzo Coviello grew up surrounded by music.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When he was four, he played the piano with his grandfather, Juan Areco, a lifelong musician who still plays his acoustic guitar at venues like the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

That experience rubbed off on Coviello, who is now a creative music production student at Miami Dade College.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The 19-year-old joined forces with his classmate Louis Ibarra and fellow musicians\u2014Dylan Fratichelli, Alejandro Pazos and Gabriel Philotas\u2014to start the alternative band OVERMANIA!<\/span><\/p>\n

On Jan. 6, the group released their first single, <\/span>SOMENIGHTS<\/span><\/i><\/a><\/span>, which centers around false love. The song is available on Spotify, SoundCloud, YouTube, Apple Music and Amazon Music Unlimited.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to create a song that simulates the vibe of walking alone at night around Miami,\u201d Ibarra said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Since the group\u2019s founding in December of 2021, they have performed at local venues like Naomi\u2019s Garden, Tea & Poets, SkateBird and the Spanish Marie Brewery.<\/span><\/p>\n

At shows, they cover music by popular artists like The Police, Bob Marley and New Order and play their own unreleased songs like <\/span>TIDAL-WAVE <\/span><\/i>and<\/span> BOOGIE<\/span><\/i>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Coviello is the lead singer, Ibarra plays the bass, Fratichelli is the drummer and Pazos and Philotas are guitarists.<\/span><\/p>\n

OVERMANIA! is classified in the alternative and indie music genres but they also incorporate jazz, funk and rock sounds. The young band draws inspiration from bands like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Beatles, Radiohead and The Eagles.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone has different tastes,\u201d Pazos said. \u201cWe like to mix a lot of different genres.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The band practices three times a week in a garage in Cutler Bay. They plan performances, brainstorm new music and create merchandise ideas for shirts, pins and bumper stickers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

OVERMANIA! is working on an extended play record slated to be released this summer. It will explore topics such as personal growth, change and finality.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe really hope this EP lands in the hands of anyone who might need it,\u201d Ibarra said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The idea to form the band came to life after Ibarra and Pazos left the rock group Modern Freaks because they were unable to incorporate their ideas into that band\u2019s sound.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

They reached out to Coviello, a former classmate at Miami Arts Studio. Fratichelli and Philotas were added later.<\/span><\/p>\n

Many of the group\u2019s members have played instruments such as the bass, guitar, ukulele and piano since they were teenagers. Ibarra, Coviello and Pazos were heavily influenced by their parents’ musical taste.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been into music as early as I [can] remember,\u201d Pazos said. \u201c My dad would always play these classic rock groups like Pink Floyd and The Beatles, which I still love today.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Coviello and Ibarra study at Kendall Campus. Fratichelli and Pazos attend Florida International University.<\/span><\/p>\n

When they\u2019re not at school or practicing their music, the band bonds by dining at local eateries, watching movies or hanging out at the park.<\/span><\/p>\n

They use their <\/span>Instagram<\/span><\/a><\/span> page to give fans a sneak peek into their art by posting behind-the-scenes footage of practices and shows.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Eventually, they want to tour internationally.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe’ve just been very lucky and very fortunate to have the exposure that we do right now,\u201d Coviello said. \u201cTo have the opportunity to grow and travel would be surreal.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
