Heidi Perez-Moreno, who served as editor-in-chief of <\/span>The Reporter<\/span><\/i> during the 2019-20 school year, has been selected as a summer intern at <\/span>The Washington Post<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 22-year-old will write stories for the Metro section,<\/em> focusing on crime, government and education in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. She starts her post on June 5.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s an honor to work at a newsroom that I’ve looked up to for so long,\u201d Perez-Moreno said. \u201cI can’t wait to get started.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

She is currently interning at WUNC\u2014North Carolina\u2019s public radio station. Last semester, Perez-Moreno served as an editorial intern at <\/span>The Assembly<\/span><\/i>\u2014a digital magazine covering politics and legal issues in North Carolina.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This past summer, she interned at the <\/span>L.A. Times En Espa\u00f1ol<\/span><\/i><\/a><\/span>, covering stories focused on the Latino community, such as her feature on East L.A.\u2019s <\/span>Queer Mercado<\/span><\/a><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Two years ago, Perez-Moreno interned as a reporting fellow at the <\/span>Texas Tribune<\/span><\/i> and as a Spanish reporter for North Carolina\u2019s <\/span>La Voz De Chatham<\/span><\/i>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

During her time at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she has served as a university desk reporter, co-diversity, equity and inclusion officer, assistant audience engagement editor and the editorial managing editor at <\/span>The Daily Tar Heel<\/span><\/i><\/a><\/span>, the school\u2019s independent student newspaper.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Perez-Moreno started her journalism career at <\/span>The Reporter<\/span><\/i> writing for the news, briefing and sports sections. During her time at the paper, she was named the Associated Collegiate Press\u2019 <\/span>Reporter of the Year<\/span><\/a><\/span> in the two-year colleges’ category and was selected as a College Media Association Pinnacle Awards finalist in the <\/span>Best Breaking News Story<\/span><\/a><\/span> category.<\/span><\/p>\n

She currently serves as president of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists student chapter at UNC. Perez-Moreno is expected to earn a bachelor\u2019s degree in journalism in May.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
