For the 12th year in a row,<\/span> The Reporter<\/span><\/i>\u2014<\/span><\/i>the award-winning student newspaper at Miami Dade College<\/span>\u2014<\/span>was crowned the <\/span>top two-year college newspaper<\/span><\/a><\/span> in Florida.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s gratifying to know that all of the hard work we put in is being recognized,\u201d said Ammy Sanchez, who served as the paper\u2019s editor-in-chief last academic year. \u201cI appreciate the time the team spent working and giving their everything.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The paper was one of two MDC publications to receive top honors at the Florida College System Publications Association conference in Jacksonville on Feb. 10.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Urbana, <\/span><\/i>the student literary publication at Eduardo J. Padro\u0301n Campus, tied for<\/span>\u00a0first-place in the Division A <\/span><\/span><\/a>magazine category with the <\/span>Kilgore Review<\/span><\/i> of <\/span>Pensacola State College. It’s the second time in three years that <\/span>Urbana<\/span><\/i> has won the honor.<\/span><\/p>\n

Entries were based on work produced during the 2021-22 academic year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Reporter<\/span><\/i> placed in 15 of 19 categories. They won 14 first-place awards. Those honors are best: News Story, Feature Story, Sports Writing, News Photo, Feature Photo, Sports Photo, Picture Story, Sports Column, Editorial Cartoon, Illustration, General Column, Humor Column, Comic Strip, and Website.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, <\/span>Ammy Sanchez<\/b><\/span> and <\/span>Danna Quintero<\/b><\/span> won Inner Circle awards for placing in three different categories.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Since its creation in 2010, <\/span>The Reporter<\/span><\/i> has won 178 awards from the FCSPA, including 112 first-place honors. The paper covers all eight MDC campuses with a circulation of 10,250 papers per monthly cycle. It also has a bi-weekly newsletter, a website and social media accounts in Twitter, Instagram and <\/span>TikTok<\/span><\/a><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Urbana<\/span><\/i> placed in 10 of 14 categories. They won first-place awards in Non-Fiction, Art Work (Individual), Photography, Art Works, Design and Staff Page.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Camila Ramirez<\/b><\/span> and <\/span>Kamila Izquierdo<\/b><\/span> won Inner Circle awards for placing in the top three of at least three categories.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s very rewarding that as a team you can be recognized,\u201d said Nicole Viloria, <\/span>Urbana<\/span><\/i>\u2019s co-editor-in-chief this academic year. \u201cWe felt really proud that <\/span>Urbana <\/span><\/i>stood out to others.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Three other MDC publications placed in the top three in their respective divisions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Miambiance<\/span><\/i>, the literary arts magazine at Kendall Campus, tied for second in Division B with the <\/span>Phoenix<\/span><\/i> of Valencia College and North Campus\u2019 <\/span>AXIS Magazine<\/span><\/i> tied for third with the<\/span> Aeolus<\/span><\/i> of Daytona State College. <\/span>Caf\u00e9 Cultura, <\/span><\/i>the<\/span> literary magazine at Hialeah Campus, finished in third-place in Division A.<\/span><\/p>\n

AXIS won first-place awards in Design and Editing. <\/span>Miambiance <\/span><\/i>and <\/span>Caf\u00e9 Cultura <\/span><\/i>won first-place honors in the Poem category.<\/span><\/p>\n
