Tanya Scotece was selected as the program coordinator of Funeral Services Education<\/a> <\/span>at North Campus. She began her duties in January.<\/p>\n

Scotece plans to expand networking opportunities and hands-on learning experiences for students seeking to enter the death care industry.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy goal is to foster relationships outside of the school so students can have a richer educational experience,\u201d Scotece said.<\/p>\n

Ever since attending a wake when she was 12, Scotece has been fascinated by funeral services and how the industry honors the lives of those that are no longer with us.<\/p>\n

From 2006 to 2018, Scotece served as director of the Farley Funeral Homes & Crematory\/Venice Memorial Gardens. Four years ago, she started at Miami Dade College as a professor of funeral service education.<\/p>\n

The 54-year-old earned a bachelor\u2019s degree in criminal justice from the University of South Florida in 2007. Two years later, she obtained a master\u2019s degree in criminal forensics, with an emphasis in death investigation, from Florida Gulf Coast University. In 2015, Scotece earned a doctorate degree in adult education from USF.<\/p>\n
