{"id":33999,"date":"2023-02-22T09:03:05","date_gmt":"2023-02-22T14:03:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/\/?p=33999"},"modified":"2023-03-24T14:01:06","modified_gmt":"2023-03-24T18:01:06","slug":"how-miami-dade-college-has-opened-my-life-opportunities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/how-miami-dade-college-has-opened-my-life-opportunities\/","title":{"rendered":"How Miami Dade College Has Opened My Life Opportunities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I always found it difficult to feel heard when I was growing up.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That all changed when I enrolled at Miami Dade College last year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All of my professors at North Campus have gone the extra mile in ensuring each student feels heard and accepted in the classroom by creating long-lasting one-on-one connections.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An example of this is my speech and communications professor <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/faculty.mdc.edu\/ynemerof\/\">Yane Nemeroff<\/a><\/span>. He has kept me engaged with his creative lectures that encourage teamwork through group activities like playing the telephone game.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Professor Nemeroff, who knows all of his students by name, is adept at identifying when someone needs help.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His close connection to his students has been the most encouraging aspect of his class. He has helped me push myself to overcome academic and personal hardships by encouraging me to be more confident and step out of my comfort zone through public speaking and socializing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a child of immigrant parents, having instructors like him encourages me to make the most out of the education and resources that are provided to me.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I now have the confidence to enroll in more classes and engage in social events like being a speaker for my campus\u2019 Hispanic Heritage Club. I\u2019ve also developed the self-confidence to speak at public events held as part of my classes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aside from academics, the student life department also plays a key role in making me feel welcome on campus.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coming from a tightly-knight high school, it was tough entering new surroundings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was a season in my life where anxiety and early signs of depression took place. However, after joining clubs and organizations like the Hispanic Heritage, Bible Salvation and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Reporter<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, my negative feelings dissipated. I found places where I belonged.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Through each extracurricular activity, I\u2019ve learned to value the diversity our campus offers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By participating in club events and with the support of my professors, I\u2019ve learned to connect with others to achieve my full potential.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The College has given me a home and a place to grow. That\u2019s why I encourage students to maximize the resources and education our institution offers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I always found it difficult to
