Before his appointment, he served as the department\u2019s interim director for 11 months.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMy goal is always to help students see the path through,\u201d Valdes said. \u201cI want them to know that they have an opportunity to grow here, even if it&#8217;s not in the medical field.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Valdes began working at Miami Dade College in 2017, serving a two-year stint as a pre-college advisor at Hialeah Campus. In 2019, he worked for three years as a senior academic and career advisor at Medical Campus.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 35-year-old earned a bachelor\u2019s degree in cross-cultural sociology from Carson-Newman University in Tennessee in 2010.
