Months after <\/span>falling one victory short of a National Title<\/span><\/span><\/a>, nine Miami Dade College volleyball<\/span><\/a> players still won after they received transfer scholarships.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Romina Cornelio<\/b><\/span> will be attending Florida Atlantic University, <\/span>Anllelivis Fernandez<\/b><\/span> will be transferring to Southern Methodist University in Dallas,<\/span> Mariela Jimenez<\/span> <\/b>will be going to <\/span>Northwestern Oklahoma State University<\/span>, <\/span>Alexandra Koleva<\/span> <\/b>accepted an offer from <\/span>Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, <\/span>Luisa Melloni<\/span> <\/b>will be enrolling at the University of Missouri, <\/span>Sila Ozyurek<\/span> <\/b>accepted an offer to the University of Missouri-Kansas City, <\/span>\u00a0Kiaraliz Perez<\/span> <\/b>is transferring to The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, <\/span>Briyith Prado<\/b><\/span> will continue her academic journey at Talladega College and <\/span>Jazmin Vergara <\/b><\/span>will attend the Youngstown State University.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Seven of the nine scholarship offers were to Division I schools.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMiami Dade [College] made me grow as a person,\u201d said Perez, who was born in Puerto Rico and credited the staff and her teammates with helping her adjust to Miami. \u201cI worked more and more everyday, which ultimately led me to accomplish one of my dreams\u2014to be at a NCAA Division I school.\u2019\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite losing in the National Championship game on Nov. 19\u00a0 against Florida SouthWestern State College (3-1) in West Plains, Missouri, the Lady Sharks had an impressive season. They were 24-9 and had two winning streaks of at least eight games.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cornelio, an outside hitter, was the team\u2019s best player. She was <\/span>named to the National Junior College Athletic Association All-America team<\/span><\/span><\/a> and was selected as the Florida College System Activities Association Player of The Year for the second season in a row.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Cornelio led the Lady Sharks with 419 points and 359 kills and she added 258 digs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Other standouts included Perez, a defensive setter who led the team with 416 digs despite suffering <\/span>a posterior cruciate ligament injury<\/span><\/span><\/a> that forced her to miss most of October and <\/span>Koleva, a setter, who led the team with 8.49 assists per set.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fernandez<\/span><\/span><\/a>, an opposite hitter, contributed 2.6 kills per set and 413 total attacks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI would tell the incoming athletes to enjoy the experience,\u201d Fernandez said. \u201cNot to get stuck on the bad things and enjoy life because one day this is going to be their last year and time will not go back.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
