{"id":35528,"date":"2023-09-25T17:23:58","date_gmt":"2023-09-25T21:23:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/?p=35528"},"modified":"2023-09-29T00:15:43","modified_gmt":"2023-09-29T04:15:43","slug":"sharks-hire-two-new-assistant-mens-basketball-coaches","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/sharks-hire-two-new-assistant-mens-basketball-coaches\/","title":{"rendered":"Sharks Hire Two New Assistant Men\u2019s Basketball Coaches"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Miami Dade College men\u2019s basketball coach Jorge Fernandez has added two new coaches<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014<\/span><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mdcathletics.com\/information\/directory\/bios\/Adam_Braswell?view=bio\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adam Braswell <\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mdcathletics.com\/sports\/mbkb\/coaches\/Blake_Peterson?view=bio\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blake Peterson<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to his staff.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The duo replaces<\/span><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/sharks-select-jenkins-as-assistant-mens-basketball-coach\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Dillon \u201cDJ\u201d Jenkins<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who left coaching, and Thomas Roque, who is now the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">athletic business manager\/head boy&#8217;s basketball coach at Mater Academy in Hialeah Gardens.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Braswell, 34, will assist with player development, strength and conditioning, recruiting, planning and strategy, scouting, and film study.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Peterson, 37, will work with guards and assist in game planning, help with academics, coordinate travel and assist with practice.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><b>Adam Braswell<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Braswell was a graduate assistant at St. Thomas University last season. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He assisted with strength and conditioning, defense strategy and pre-game warmups.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The previous season he served as an assistant coach at Dade Christian School, a private school in Hialeah, and as head coach at Champagnat Catholic School in Hialeah Gardens during the 2021-22 season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Braswell was a point guard <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at Morgan State University in Maryland from 2009-2011 and at Florida Memorial University from 2011-2013. He averaged 8.8 points in 26 games as a senior at FMU.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBeing a young coach with not a lot of experience, this opportunity means a lot to me,\u201d Braswell said. \u201cThe fact that coach Fernandez trusted me to join the coaching staff and to work with a team with such a rich history means a lot.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><b>Blake Peterson\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the past four seasons, Peterson served as an assistant coach at Iowa Central Community College.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Coon Rapids, Minnesota native has spent the bulk of his career as an assistant coach in the midwest, serving stints at Minnesota State University, St. Mary\u2019s University and Bemidji State University.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He spent one season (2017-2018) as the head coach at Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa. The Spartans were\u00a0 29-8 under Peterson\u2019s guidance, finishing third in the nation in the National Junior College Athletic Association, Division II.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis opportunity means everything to me,\u201d Peterson said. \u201cMy long term goal is to eventually become a head coach and run a program at a four-year university.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sharks start the regular season at home at the Theodore R.
