The president of the United States of America is under <\/span>investigation<\/span><\/a><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kevin McCarthy, the <\/span>former<\/span><\/a><\/span> speaker of the House of Representatives, <\/span>announced<\/span><\/a><\/span> on Sept. 13 that the Committee on Oversight and Accountability, the main investigative body of the House, will launch an impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden\u2019s business endeavors.<\/span><\/p>\n

The inquiry aims to determine if he was involved in a bribery scheme during his vice-presidency, following claims that he pressured Ukrainian officials to fire its lead prosecutor to stop an investigation into Burisma Holdings Limited, the energy company that his son, <\/span>Hunter<\/span><\/a><\/span>, was on the board of.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This may surprise most people due to the lack of media coverage and air-time on outlets such as CNN, Fox News and NBC.<\/span><\/p>\n

An impeachment inquiry is Congress\u2019 most powerful check against the executive and judicial branches that allows for an in-depth investigation into allegations of wrongdoing by elected officials; it is not necessary for impeachment but can lead to one.<\/span><\/p>\n

House Republicans have been vetting the president\u2019s relation to his son\u2019s business dealings since gaining a majority in the chamber more than nine months ago, but an inquiry allows them to subpoena more people and documents.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>basis<\/span><\/a><\/span> of the investigations centers on an <\/span>unverified tip<\/span><\/a><\/span> given to the Federal Bureau of Investigation that Biden potentially received $5 million from a Burisma executive and <\/span>IRS whistleblower testimony<\/span><\/a><\/span> that suggests Hunter received protection from the Justice Department when being investigated for alleged tax crimes and foreign dealings.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It also focuses on testimony given by Hunter\u2019s former business partner, <\/span>Devon Archer<\/span><\/a><\/span>, that states Biden spoke and dined with his son\u2019s foreign business associates and that his \u201cbrand\u201d was a key element Hunter brought to Burisma.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite these findings, people do not seem to care about the Biden investigation, perhaps that apathy is due to the media\u2019s lack of emphasis on it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

News outlets have not amplified updates on Biden\u2019s inquiry nearly as much as they did during the Donald J. Trump\u2019s investigation, when updates were given any time there was new information.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While researching for this column, I came across two differences that can seem crucial when<\/span><\/p>\n

demonstrating the media\u2019s favoritism.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When I typed \u201cTrump news today\u201d in the search bar, seven articles from the most important news sources in America popped up. Half of those articles were related to the current Trump fraud investigation.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, when I typed \u201cBiden news today,\u201d of the seven top articles that appeared, only two were related to his investigation. Two others were related to Trump and another highlighted talk about a government shutdown.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The media has a grip on what people see. It shapes people\u2019s perception and understanding of reality.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Most of the media today has skewed the news and information by explicitly leaning toward a political side or manipulating the amount of information broadcast to viewers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

That makes it difficult for viewers to obtain objective information about what is happening in the world and draw their own conclusions, creating distrust between the public and the media.<\/span><\/p>\n

The unbalanced media coverage is unethical and the public needs to be informed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
