MDC-TV, Miami Dade College\u2019s award-winning television station, has been nominated for three Suncoast Regional Emmy Awards.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The awards are presented by the Suncoast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.\u00a0 MDC-TV has won nine regional Emmys since 2011.<\/span><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s<\/span> winners will be announced on Dec. 2<\/span><\/a><\/span> at The Diplomat Beach Resort in Hollywood, Florida.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c[Although] our small College TV station contends with big companies, our unique strength lies in the collaborative synergy between our dedicated team of students, professors and allied professionals, who collectively contribute their expertise to our projects,\u201d said\u00a0 Ariel Rubalcava, MDC-TV\u2019s executive director and senior producer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The station was nominated in the following categories; <\/span>Special Event Coverage<\/b> for<\/span> Video Game Concert 2023<\/span><\/i><\/a><\/span>, <\/span>Arts and Entertainment<\/b> for <\/span>Echoes of Inspiration<\/span><\/span><\/i> <\/a>and <\/span>Interview\/Discussion<\/b> for the<\/span> Nicolas Cage: Actor\u2019s Spotlight @ MDC<\/span><\/i><\/a><\/span> segment.<\/span><\/p>\n

Video Game Concert 2023<\/span><\/i> was led by Rubalcava and Alberto Bade, an adjunct professor at North Campus who also serves as director of the MDC Symphony Orchestra.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The project, which has happened six times since 2015 when it earned the station its first regional Emmy, featured variations of popular video game soundtracks like Super Mario, Final Fantasy and Skyrim.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

They were performed by Bade\u2019s students and external musicians the conductor wanted to work with.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI do these projects to unite people,\u201d Bade said. \u201cI’ve always [liked] combining because everybody has a special talent. And when you combine all those special talents and you bring them into one concentrated program, it leads to really special things.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Echoes of Inspiration<\/span><\/i> was led by Bade. He was assisted by Leonardo Colloca, Humberto Casanova and Rubalcava.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Inspired by Bade\u2019s students’ compositions, the nominated project included him conducting their work.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI have so many students in the orchestra that want to be composers and they each compose their own styles in their own ways, but all very good,\u201d Bade said. \u201cNow they\u2019re composing [that] to me in a style like Brahms or like Beethoven. So, I made this whole program about that.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Nicolas Cage: Actor\u2019s Spotlight @ MDC<\/span><\/i> was the final nomination. It was led by Rubalcava and Adrian Garcia, an assistant professor in the film and digital production program at North Campus.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It consisted of an interview with award-winning actor Nicolas Cage discussing his acting career and the legacy he hopes to leave.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cThe Nicolas Cage show holds a special place in my heart, given my upbringing closely intertwined with watching his illustrious journey as a Hollywood actor,\u201d said Rubalcava, who\u00a0 served as the director and post-production supervisor for the project.<\/span><\/p>\n

MDC-TV airs on Comcast channel 78, Atlantic Broadband channel 78, AT & T U-Verse channel 99 and on <\/span>Youtube<\/span>.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n
