{"id":35797,"date":"2023-11-07T13:50:29","date_gmt":"2023-11-07T18:50:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/?p=35797"},"modified":"2023-11-09T18:07:02","modified_gmt":"2023-11-09T23:07:02","slug":"the-trouble-with-ticketmaster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/the-trouble-with-ticketmaster\/","title":{"rendered":"The Trouble With Ticketmaster"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today\u2019s mainstream concerts cost an arm and a leg.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And while concerts have always been pricey, today\u2019s tickets are out of control.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With all the big tours that have occurred recently, such as Taylor Swift\u2019s<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Eras <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and Beyonce\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Renaissance<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as well as upcoming ones like Bad Bunny\u2019s<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Most Wanted<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Olivia Rodrigo\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Guts<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, it\u2019s time to talk about the big elephant in the room\u2014Ticketmaster.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ticket sales giant has always been praised for its convenience. It allows concert-goers to find nearly every music event online and purchase tickets through an app or website.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, due to its recent issues, fans and artists are fed up with the company.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ticket scalpers, a term used to describe individuals that buy large amounts of tickets with the intention of reselling for a higher price, have been the main nuisance on the application. This puts fans at a major disadvantage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eras <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tour, scalpers and resale robots bought tickets during the pre-sale period and resold them at prices that reached $22,000.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This led to a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/6249730\/ticketmaster-taylor-swift-hearing-congress\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">congressional hearing<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> over hidden fees, scalpers and sale cancellations during the summer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Congress even proposed a bill titled the <\/span><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.blumenthal.senate.gov\/newsroom\/press\/release\/blumenthal-hirono-and-markey-introduce-boss_swift-act-to-protect-consumers-from-predatory-ticket-sellers--fees\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Boss and Swift Act<\/span><\/i><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (named after Bruce Springsteen and Taylor Swift), that requires transparency with base prices, added fees, the distribution of tickets and refund policies.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In terms of business ethics, Ticketmaster has faced antitrust concerns, especially after their merger with Live Nation Entertainment in 2010.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since Live Nation is a major event promoter, critics say it gives them an unfair advantage, creating a monopolistic atmosphere.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From personal experience with the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Guts <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tour, I can attest to the complaints fans have launched. My friends and I dubbed it the \u201cticket Hunger Games\u201d from how stressful the purchasing experience was.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I glitched out of the online waiting room twice and lost my place in line each time. When I added to my ticket cart<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">before I could finish typing my payment information<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I got a cancellation alert stating that someone had already purchased them.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When I finally managed to get the tickets, I was charged $29.35 extra for obscure \u201cTicketmaster Fees.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While it\u2019s impossible to ask Ticketmaster to get rid of ticket scalpers, the app can take more preventative measures, such as installing better anti-bot technology to prevent malicious bots from purchasing tickets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Improvements can also be made for high-demand events, because ticket sales for popular artists frequently experience random cancellations and glitches.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition, the company should be more transparent about its added fees and give valid reasoning as to why they are imposed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ticketmaster might be making promises but it\u2019s time they took accountability and started taking action.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Listening to user complaints is great, but actually solving the issues behind said complaints is better.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today\u2019s mainstream concerts cost an arm and a leg.\u00a0 And while concerts have always been pricey, today\u2019s tickets are out of control.
