{"id":358,"date":"2015-08-25T07:00:24","date_gmt":"2015-08-25T11:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mdcthereporter.com\/?p=358"},"modified":"2021-07-19T13:14:57","modified_gmt":"2021-07-19T17:14:57","slug":"headhunters-is-a-coenesque-thriller-full-of-twists-and-turns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/headhunters-is-a-coenesque-thriller-full-of-twists-and-turns\/","title":{"rendered":"Headhunters Is A Coenesque Thriller Full Of Twists And Turns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you happen to be a fan of the Coen Brothers (<em>Fargo<\/em>, <em>Blood Simple<\/em>) dark and violent, yet subtle comedic style\u2014or liked my previous recommendation of Jeremy Saulnier\u2019s <em>Blue Ruin<\/em>\u2014then <em>Headhunters<\/em> may be a good choice to queue up on Netflix sometime soon.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the 2008 novel of the same name from author Jo Nesb\u00f8, <em>Headhunters<\/em> follows the story of Roger Brown (Aksel Hennie), an executive recruiter for major corporations who moonlights as an art thief\u2014using the knowledge gained from the hopeful CEO\u2019s he interviews to plan his heists.<\/p>\n<p>When the short-statured Brown is introduced by his tall, good-looking wife to an equally tall and good-looking man who also happens to possess a rare painting worth millions, Brown\u2019s Napoleon complex kicks into full gear as he\u2019s found his next mark. The problem is that this is no ordinary businessman he\u2019s targeting; it is ex-special forces commando Clas Greve (played by <em>Game of Thrones<\/em>\u2019 Nikolaj Coster-Waldau).<\/p>\n[sam id=&#8221;2&#8243; codes=&#8221;true&#8221;]\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>What seems at first to be a paint-by-the-numbers caper flick, quickly unravels from there, as the layers begin to peel and the truth becomes as cloudy as the overcast Norwegian sky.<\/p>\n<p>What we\u2019re left with once all the pieces fall into place, is a damn good story that keeps you on your toes until the very end; rightfully so considering we\u2019re dealing with a master of manipulation and an expert of espionage.<\/p>\n<p>Working with the source material from the book, and a script from Ulf Ryberg and Lars Gudmestad, the film was directed brilliantly by Morten Tyldum, who recently got a lot of attention for last year\u2019s <em>The Imitation Game<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>If you don\u2019t take my word for it, <em>Headhunters<\/em> is also favored by my fellow Mark\u2014Wahlberg\u2014who said in an interview that the film was \u201cone of the best movies I&#8217;ve seen in a long time.\u201d He liked the film so much that he was planning on doing an American remake, a plan that has now been scrapped in favor of an HBO series currently being written by <em>True Blood<\/em>\u2019s Alexander Woo.<\/p>\n<p>My suggestion is to watch the original flick now, before all the eventual hype, and you can say you were a fan before it was cool.
