Priya Pershadsingh was appointed director of the Institute for Civic Engagement & Democracy<\/a> <\/span>department at Kendall Campus on April 22.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Her responsibilities include overseeing programs that promote community engagement and fostering collaboration between students and administrators.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOur focus is to provide to the community, to give back and to help people,\u201d Pershadsingh said.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the last year, the 26-year-old has worked as a part-time program coordinator for iCED, a program assistant for Citizens for a better South Florida\u2014a non-profit organization aimed at promoting environmental sustainability\u2014as a marketing specialist for Monar Air Conditioning and an instructor at Nara Bollywood Dance Academy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prior to Miami Dade College, <\/span>Pershadsingh interned at the Citizens for a Better South Florida, developing fundraising campaigns and grant proposals, from 2021 to 2023.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She also served as a graduate research assistant for the International Development Research Centre at the University of Florida, working to advance women\u2019s participation in the development of vaccines in Uganda, Nepal and Senegal, from 2020 to 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pershadsingh, <\/span>who served as a photographer for <\/span>The Reporter <\/span><\/i>from 2015 to 2017, <\/span>earned an associate\u2019s degree in mass communication from North Campus in 2017.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Three years later, she obtained a bachelor\u2019s degree in sustainability studies from UF. In 2022, she earned a master\u2019s degree in sustainable development practice with a minor in nonprofit organizational leadership, also from UF.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
