Miami Dade College students\u2014here are your new Student Government Association<\/a><\/span> leaders.<\/span><\/p>\n

College-wide elections took place March 13 through March 20. Voting was held virtually through MDC\u2019s election website.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Elected officers were inducted on May 28 and will serve in their positions through the end of the spring 2025 semester.<\/span><\/p>\n

Candidates had to have earned a high school diploma or equivalent, be enrolled in at least six credits at their respective campus, have a minimum of 2.5 GPA and maintain a clear academic conduct standing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Kendall Campus<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

President:<\/span> Yosdany Angulo-Cartas<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

ANGULO-CARTAS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Angulo-Cartas is an architecture student pursuing an associate\u2019s degree at Kendall Campus who plans to host farm share food distribution events for the community and engagement activities for underserved youth.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He also looks forward to having active participation in the Phi Theta Kappa honors society this year.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI hope to help [students] by bringing them a sense of peace, knowing that they can come to us and ask for any type of help,\u201d the 19-year-old said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Angulo-Cartas<\/span> was originally selected as vice president, according to an email disseminated by Kendall Campus and an Instagram post uploaded by Kendall Campus\u2019 SGA on March 22. In those posts, Isabella Valdes was announced as president.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Valdes told <\/span>The Reporter <\/span><\/i>she will not be serving as president due to personal reasons.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Olaiz is a 21-year-old biology and political science student in the Honors College. She hopes to increase accessibility to tutors and feminine hygiene products on campus. Olaiz, who founded the Latino Medical Student Association and serves as Phi Theta Kappa\u2019s director of leadership and service, will be interning at Columbia University\u2019s Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons this summer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis position is a big responsibility, so I feel immensely privileged to have been <\/span>chosen by my peers to represent and voice their concerns,\u201d Olaiz said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis position signifies the responsibility of uniting the institution with its students,\u201d Burgos said. \u201cAs a representative of the entire campus community, I am committed to elevating student voices and advocating for their needs both within and beyond the organization.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Materan is a rising sophomore majoring in political science in the Honors College. The 20-year-old, who serves as the restaurant floor manager of Carne en Vara Express, hopes to increase community service initiatives at Padr\u00f3n Campus.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI believe our college, and specifically our campus, have a variety of resources and opportunities that I have the privilege of helping to promote to our students,\u201d Materan said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Gayle, 34, is a nursing student seeking to create an environment where students and campus leaders can work together to positively impact the community. She also wants to expand community services opportunities. Gayle, who is a lead medical assistant at Mount Sinai Medical Center, serves a dual role as the SGA Board of Trustees representative. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis position means a lot to me because it\u2019s been my dream to become the SGA President since the first day I stepped foot on campus,\u201d Gayle said. \u201cIt\u2019s always been my passion to encourage everyone and I can finally use my love for helping others by guiding students to become a better version of themselves.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ojeda is a 19-year-old architecture student seeking to increase student engagement at Hialeah Campus. During his tenure, he will continue serving as the vice president of Over the Net, a pingpong club, and as treasurer of Zoological Observational Outreach Club, an organization aimed at raising awareness for wildlife. He also hopes to incorporate his architecture skills to build something useful for the College.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI am highly committed to this community and consider it my home and wish for all students to feel the same,\u201d Ojeda said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWith my cabinet, [I] want to improve engagement within the student body of our campus by making them aware of involvement opportunities,\u201d Jerviz said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI hope to foster a stronger sense of community, create more opportunities for student involvement and leave a lasting positive impact,\u201d Bohorquez said.<\/span><\/p>\n
