The\u00a0 <\/span>Cultural Affairs<\/span><\/a><\/span> Department at Miami Dade College was awarded a $2 million grant by the John S. and James L. <\/span>Knight Foundation<\/span><\/a><\/span> on Aug. 5.<\/span><\/p>\n

It will be used to implement <\/span>Salesforce<\/span><\/a><\/span>, software that allows companies to track consumer behavior patterns and sales data. Cultural Affairs will use the software to monitor the community\u2019s interactions with Miami Book Fair, Miami Film Festival, Museum of Art and Design, Koubek Center and Live Arts Miami.<\/span><\/p>\n

The four-year grant\u00a0 will also be used to incorporate artificial intelligence such as a chatbot\u2014software that mimics human conversations to help customers find information\u2014into the department\u2019s websites.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis grant is a testament to the belief that the College is forward-thinking and that we will continue to innovate and always improve without compromising community access [to information], because that\u2019s really our DNA.\u201d said Mar\u00eda Carla Chicu\u00e9n, executive director of cultural affairs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Knight Foundation, a long-time partner of MDC, is a non-profit organization founded in 1950\u00a0 that provides grants for journalism, communities and the arts.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
