{"id":37801,"date":"2024-08-30T16:07:23","date_gmt":"2024-08-30T20:07:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/?p=37801"},"modified":"2024-08-30T20:21:57","modified_gmt":"2024-08-31T00:21:57","slug":"make-time-for-your-loved-ones-before-its-too-late","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/make-time-for-your-loved-ones-before-its-too-late\/","title":{"rendered":"Make Time For Your Loved Ones Before It\u2019s Too Late"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Life can change in the blink of an eye.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two weeks ago, I was spending a weekend with friends in Orlando, creating core memories at <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/disneyworld.disney.go.com\/destinations\/magic-kingdom\/\">Magic Kingdom<\/a><\/span> and EPCOT\u2014riding countless attractions, eating <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">around the world<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We decided to end the road trip at a Thai restaurant near Hallandale Beach. While there, I saw a missed text message from mom that changed my perspective on life.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cGrandma is in the hospital.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not wanting to \u201ckill the mood\u201d of an otherwise fantastic day, I thought, &#8220;there&#8217;s nothing you can do about it here, enjoy the present. Once you\u2019re home, you\u2019ll have to face the issue head on.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My anxiety worsened as I saw my apartment from the passenger window of my friend\u2019s car. I said my goodbyes with a smile on my face, but the moment I turned away, the smile faded.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I arrived home to see my mom sitting next to her phone, where she had been for most of the day, waiting for updates from the hospital.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By midnight, I found myself no longer in a magical funland, but in a nightmare. \u00a0My grandma Alexandria had suffered a heart attack and was intubated\u00a0 in the intensive care unit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As I hovered over her hospital bed, I broke down crying. I realized I hadn\u2019t spoken to my grandma in nearly two weeks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She passed away a few days later and I never got the chance to say goodbye.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As we age, life gets hectic, responsibilities grow and we stretch ourselves thin. Eventually, we start forgetting to check in on people and make excuses\u2014we\u2019re too tired, busy, lazy. After a long day, many of us simply don\u2019t want to hear another voice or carry on a conversation at home.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But before you know it, weeks and months have passed without you speaking to the most important people in your life.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s going to take some time to forgive myself for not checking in on my grandmother when I had the chance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, if there\u2019s something positive I can take away from such a terrible experience, it\u2019s this\u2014make time for the people you love and ground yourself in what&#8217;s really important.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tomorrow is never guaranteed; life can and will change in an instant.
