Miami Dade College\u2019s student-led newspaper, <\/span>The Reporter<\/span><\/i>, has appointed sophomores Juliette Bryant and Nalini Singh as briefing and arts & entertainment editors, respectively, for the 2024-25 school year.<\/span><\/p>\n

The duo began their roles in August.<\/span><\/p>\n

They will serve alongside <\/span>Editor-in-Chief Isabella Arce<\/span><\/span><\/a> and Social Media Director Andrea Brion<\/span>e<\/b>s who were previously appointed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Juliette Bryant<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Bryant manages more than 10 writers and assigns, writes and edits briefs on a bi-weekly basis.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to be briefing editor because I like to help people,\u201d she said. \u201c[Briefing has been] my strong suit and I figured I could succeed in this.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Bryant joined <\/span>The Reporter<\/span><\/i> in November of 2023. She has written more than 20 articles, reporting on topics such as MDC President Madeline Pumariega being featured on <\/span>Forbes<\/span><\/i>\u2019 <\/span>50 Over 50<\/span><\/i><\/a><\/span>\u2014a special issue highlighting women 50 years old or older who are impacting the world\u2014Hialeah Campus\u2019 <\/span>new certification courses<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

At Kendall Campus, Bryant, who is studying accounting, also serves as vice president of the <\/span>Future Finance Leaders<\/span><\/a><\/span> organization and volunteers at MDC\u2019s <\/span>Volunteer Income Tax Assistance<\/span><\/a><\/span> program. She also does community service at Royal Palm Elementary School.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The 19-year-old Honors College student graduated from Florida Christian School in May of 2023. She is slated to complete her studies at MDC in the spring of 2025 with an associate\u2019s degree in accounting and aspires to work as a certified public accountant.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Nalini Singh<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

As A\/E editor, Singh assigns articles and illustrations, oversees writers and edits content.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEverybody’s struggle with writing is so different,\u201d Singh said. \u201cBut just being able to sit down with [the writers], give feedback [and explain] why [I] edited certain things is important.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The 19-year-old joined <\/span>The Reporter <\/span><\/i>last spring. She has written articles for the A\/E section, on topics such as <\/span>streaming services<\/span><\/a><\/span>, Charli XCX\u2019s album <\/span>Brat<\/span><\/i><\/a><\/span>, and Marvel\u2019s <\/span>Deadpool & Wolverine<\/span><\/i><\/a><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Her passion for arts and pop culture, which blossomed during her childhood, inspired her to serve as an A\/E writer for <\/span>The Ferguson Talon<\/span><\/i>, the student newspaper at John A. Ferguson Senior High School, until she graduated in June of 2023<\/span>.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Singh, who is in the Honors College at Kendall Campus, is slated to graduate with an associate\u2019s degree in mass communication\/journalism from MDC this spring. She aspires to work in business or entertainment law.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Isabella Arce\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Arce is a sophomore in the Honors College at Kendall Campus majoring in pre-nursing. Her curiosity and desire for a creative outlet drove her to join <\/span>The Reporter<\/span><\/i> as a briefing writer in October. By the end of the month, she began writing for the paper\u2019s news section.<\/span><\/p>\n

As EIC, the 19-year-old, who graduated from Downtown Doral Charter Upper School in June of 2023, oversees a staff of more than 40 students, assigns and edits stories and represents the paper at college-wide events.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c[People\u2019s] stories are like puzzle pieces,\u201d Arce said. \u201cBy listening to their stories you\u2019re putting their pieces together and figuring out why they are how they are.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Andrea Briones<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Briones, who graduated from Youth Co-Op Preparatory High School in June of 2023, is a sophomore in the Honors College at North Campus studying mass communication\/journalism.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Last spring, the 20-year-old was appointed social media director. Briones, who also writes for the news, briefing, and forum sections, manages the newspaper\u2019s <\/span>TikTok<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Instagram<\/span><\/a><\/span> and <\/span>X<\/span><\/a><\/span> accounts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBeing social media director is meaningful to me because I feel l\u2019m part of this small community that not a lot of people know about in the College,\u201d Briones said. \u201cIt\u2019s not just a student newspaper, it\u2019s people that are writing other people’s stories that make it a newspaper.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
