Top Honor: For the third year in a row, The Reporter, was named the top student newspaper in the state, in Division B, by the Florida College System Publications Association. The paper won 16 awards, including 10 first-place honors at the FCSPA awards banquet in Tampa on Oct. 18.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Caf\u00e9 Cultura, <\/span><\/i>the literary magazine at Hialeah Campus, and <\/span>The Reporter<\/span><\/i>, the college-wide newspaper at Miami Dade College, received top honors<\/span> at the Florida College System Publications Association awards banquet in Tampa on Oct 18.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Reporter<\/span><\/i> was selected as the top newspaper in the state in Division B, for the third year in a row, and <\/span>Caf\u00e9 Cultura<\/span><\/i> was picked as the top magazine in Division A, for the fourth year in a row.<\/span><\/p>\n

The competition was based on newspapers and magazines printed during the 2012-13 school year.<\/span><\/p>\n

Miambiance<\/span><\/i>, the literary magazine at Kendall Campus, and <\/span>AXIS<\/span><\/i>, the North Campus magazine, \u00a0tied for second place in Division B; <\/span>Metromorphosis<\/span><\/i>, the magazine at Wolfson Campus, finished in third place in Division B; <\/span>Estuaries<\/span><\/i>, the magazine at Homestead Campus, tied two other schools for third place in Division A. <\/span><\/p>\n

Caf\u00e9 Cultura <\/span><\/i>won 10 awards, including six first-place honors. In addition, <\/span>Bianca Rodriguez<\/b>, who is serving as editor-in-chief of the magazine this year, was honored with the Debra Vazquez Memorial Poetry Award.<\/span><\/p>\n

“We didn’t think we were going to get it again,” <\/span>Caf\u00e9 Cultura<\/span><\/i> co-adviser, Ivonne Lamazares, said about her publication once again receiving top honors. “We were surprised because the magazines are beautiful and there are more magazines.”<\/span><\/p>\n

The Reporter<\/span><\/i> won 16 awards, including 10 first-place honors. The paper has won 48 awards from the FCSPA, including 28 first-place honors, in the past three years.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI am so proud of <\/span>The Reporter<\/span><\/i> for all of its achievements in the past year,\u201d said Karla Barrios, who served as the paper\u2019s editor last year, and is currently a junior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, majoring in global studies. \u201cIt was [an] honor to have served as editor-in-chief. I feel incredibly proud of everyone who contributed and was part of our amazing staff.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The newspaper\u2019s first-place awards this year included: <\/span>Gregory Castillo<\/b>, Best \u00a0News Photo, Best Sports Photo, Best News Story, and Best Feature Story; <\/span>Gabriel Cacabelos<\/b>, Best Illustration and Best Editorial Cartoon; <\/span>Agustin Toriz<\/b>, Best Design; <\/span>Alexander Rey<\/b>, Best Ad Design; <\/span>Kai Sacco<\/b>, Best Arts Review; <\/span>Eduardo Blandon<\/b>, Best Sports Writing. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
