Padr\u00f3n Campus. His latest innovation is an artificial intelligence platform that provides a patient\u2019s ophthalmological diagnosis and prognosis\u2014AI-Ophthal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It uses patient history and systemic conditions to diagnose and manage multiple eye diseases at once, including cataracts, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. The AI-Ophthal platform also predicts surgical and treatment outcomes, with more than 95% accuracy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vidhani <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/dr-dinesh-vidhani-96607b1a_ai-ophthal-platform-transforming-clinical-activity-7272148594239983616-ZTcC?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=member_ios&amp;rcm=ACoAAEb1CKQB1ORxrTfseZmLrzlVFebdcrTTeos\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">announced on LinkedIn<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that he and his brother, Dr. Anupkumar Vidhani, and their team in India are awaiting a United States patent for the project.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cVidhani is one of those professors in the department who sets a very high standard, both as a professor and as a researcher,\u201d said Jyrko Correa-Morris, chairperson of the mathematics and natural sciences department at Padr\u00f3n Campus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uspto.gov\/patents\/basics\/essentials#questions\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> U.S. Patent and Trademark Office<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, \u201ca U.S. patent gives you, the inventor, the right to \u201cexclude others from making, using, offering for sale, or selling\u201d an invention or \u201cimporting\u201d it into the U.S.\u201d Those rights are granted to the inventor for 15 to 20 years, depending on the patent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The idea blossomed in 2020 when Vidhani\u2019s brother pitched the project. Vidhani agreed to virtually assist using his passion for research and knowledge in AI.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For two years, Vidhani underwent training to learn about ocular anatomy and physiology, common diseases and examination standards and procedures. Then, he began developing the artificial intelligence code with two modes: user or autonomous mode.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">User mode is managed by a medical professional while autonomous mode gives the platform free range tasks such as diagnostic assessments and advising prognosis with a medical professional\u2019s verification required.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cEverything that he is doing, both by himself and with his students, is an example of academic excellence,\u201d Correa-Morris said. \u201cI would like to have all professors doing what he is doing one way or another.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vidhani and his team are seeking to collaborate with healthcare providers, research institutions and nonprofit organizations to continue developing AI-Ophthal and expand access to it worldwide, especially in underserved areas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cEveryone should have equal access.
