Here are your new <\/span>Student Government Association<\/span><\/a> leaders for the 2025-26 academic year.<\/span><\/p>\n

The college-wide virtual elections took place March 17 through March 21 through MDC\u2019s <\/span>election website<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Elected officers will be inducted on May 21 and serve in their positions through the end of the spring 2026 semester.<\/span><\/p>\n

Candidates had to have earned a high school diploma or equivalent, be enrolled in at least six credits at their respective campus, have a minimum 2.5 GPA and maintain a clear academic conduct standing.<\/span><\/p>\n

Each SGA campus president was interviewed for this story via phone or email and a short bio was compiled.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Eduardo J. Padr\u00f3n Campus<\/b><\/p>\n

President:<\/b> Sol Gatica<\/b><\/p>\n

GATICA<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Gatica is a mass communications student in The Honors College. She hopes to get more students involved on campus through workshops, cultural events and community service projects and strengthen communication with administration.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 19-year-old serves as an Honors College ambassador, representing and supporting the cohort at various activities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Gatica was appointed as president following the resignation of Jean-Pierre Neira-Pinz\u00f3n on Aug. 6. Neira-Pinz\u00f3n resigned due to personal reasons, according to Eduardo J. Padr\u00f3n Campus SGA advisor Bryan Cash.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI feel honored to serve as a voice for students, and I\u2019m excited about the opportunity to make a difference on campus,\u201d Gatica said. \u201cI aspire to continue growing as a leader and leave behind a positive impact at Miami Dade College.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

President<\/b>: <\/span>Martin Maradiaga<\/b><\/p>\n

Maradiaga is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in leadership management with a concentration in human resources. He aims to support students in their academic and mental health journeys by increasing access to school supplies and workshops.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The 19-year-old is also a member of the <\/span>Hialeah Scholars<\/span><\/a> program, where he trains peer mentors and gives weekly presentations about MDC resources, and serves as a student assistant at Student Life.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI am happy, proud and thankful for the support from other people,\u201d Maradiaga said. \u201cWe are for the students, we represent the student body, so I am excited to start a new chapter in my life.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Hernandez is a political science major who seeks to increase civic engagement and student representation. He wants to host civic engagement, sustainability and mental health events and create a storytelling initiative for students to share their life experiences.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The 18-year-old is serving as the advocacy chair for the United Nations Association of the United States Miami Chapter and has participated in the City of Homestead\u2019s Mayor\u2019s Youth Council.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m excited for what\u2019s ahead, and I welcome every student to be part of this journey with me,\u201d Hernandez said. \u201cWhether it\u2019s through advocacy, creativity or conversation, we all have a role in shaping a better campus.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Escandon is a rising sophomore pursuing an associate degree in English. She hopes to host monthly social events to increase student engagement and foster a sense of community.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 19-year-old works as a student assistant at the New Student Center. She also serves as a poetry editor for <\/span>Miambiance<\/span><\/i>, Kendall Campus\u2019 literary arts magazine<\/span>. This summer, Escandon, who aspires to be a lawyer, will be shadowing a real estate attorney.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“I actually was able to find out with my friends [that I won] \u2026 and we screamed so loud that everyone at the campus Starbucks thought something happened,\u201d Escandon said. \u201cI truly feel so blessed and honored to take this opportunity to be a leader [at] Kendall Campus.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

President:<\/b> Samuel Boyer<\/strong><\/p>\n

Boyer is a dental hygiene student who seeks to raise awareness of MDC resources and opportunities. He also wants to partner with The Idea Center, Wolfson Campus\u2019 hub for entrepreneurship and innovation, to host workshops tailored to students\u2019 needs.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 20-year-old is a Rising Scholar and has worked with various departments, including academic advisement, financial aid and the Institute of Civic Engagement and Democracy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He\u2019s also a founding member of the pre-dental club and is vice president of the Student American Dental Hygienists Association.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m trying to get the campus on the map with other campuses as well,\u201d Boyer said. \u201cAnd just making sure that the students, the faculty, everyone gets the recognition that they deserve.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Garcia is a biology student who hopes to foster a more inclusive community on campus through sports, festivals and flea market events.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 20-year-old is working as an Andrew Goodman Foundation Fellow with iCED, where she is educating the community on political issues and voting rights. She\u2019s also earned the Presidential Volunteer Service Award for completing more than 650 service hours since last spring.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI know that I will be going through ups and downs with the role that I am about to begin,\u201d Garcia said. \u201c[But] \u200b\u200bI feel very confident that I can bring everyone together slowly but shortly.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Inguanzo is a rising sophomore studying political science who hopes to amplify student voices.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 19-year-old wants to host \u201cPitch Your Idea,\u201d a <\/span>Shark Tank<\/span><\/i>-inspired event where students present campus improvement suggestions to the SGA Executive Board. She also wants to organize Town Hall meetings with pizza and coffee for students to engage with officers in a casual setting.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs someone who has always been \u2018the outcast\u2019 the spotlight is strange, but I\u2019m ready to use the recognition as a platform for everyone who feels left out,\u201d Inguanzo said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Korol is a student in the Paralegal Studies Program. She plans to encourage students to attend the speaker panels and career fairs on campus.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The 19-year-old has earned the Silver Civic Action Award and served on the dais at a Model United Nations conference. She also founded MDC Insider, an organization that informs students about campus events and opportunities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI look forward to making good on my campaign promises,\u201d Korol said. \u201cI couldn’t have done it without the people who believed in and voted for me.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
