Jose Garcia, a campus services employee at North Campus, who has worked at Miami Dade College for more than 40 years, is recovering from injuries he sustained after he was struck by a vehicle in lot 16.<\/span><\/p>\n

The incident happened on August 6. According to police and public safety reports, as Garcia was walking through the parking lot he was struck by a Honda Pilot that was reversing. The vehicle was driven by professor Manuel De Jesus Arana Rosainz, who was cited for improper backing.<\/span><\/p>\n

Garcia, 77, was transported to Hialeah Hospital after he complained of back, head and leg injuries. He sustained <\/span>three broken ribs, a fractured femur and cerebral hemorrhaging. Garcia is currently undergoing rehabilitation for his legs at HealthSouth in Broward County.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to Randel Carr, Director of Campus Support Services at North Campus, Garcia is recovering well and plans on returning to work.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cGarcia has worked at MDC for 42 years and has barely missed a day,\u201d Carr said. \u201cThis is his life.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

His colleagues look forward to having him back on campus.<\/span><\/p>\n

Irmina Diaz, an accounts specialist at North Campus, described Garcia as a hard-working man.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe is a very decent person, very humanitarian,\u201d Diaz said. \u201c I would tell him that he was like my father.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
