After the internship, she served as a freelancer at the news outlet for eight months before <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/three-mdc-literary-magazines-selected-as-pinnacle-award-finalists\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">being hired full-time<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In January of 2023, Sanchez was selected for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/former-reporter-editor-selected-for-npr-digital-journalism-project\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>NPR<\/em>\u2019s Next Generation Radio<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a five-day digital journalism program. Six months later she participated in the National Association of Hispanic Journalists\u2019 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/latinoreporter.org\/author\/ammysanchez\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Latino Reporter<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> project.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At MDC<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">she<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0served as forum editor, briefing editor, social media director and editor-in-chief of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Reporter<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During her two years at the College, she wrote stories about <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/eleven-year-old-is-diminutive-in-size-but-an-academic-giant-at-mdc\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">an 11-year-old dual-enrollment student<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/governor-pledges-25-million-to-renovate-freedom-tower\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Freedom Tower<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/he-fled-cuba-and-made-mdc-his-home-pepe-celebrates-50-years\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">an 85-year-old custodian <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who retired from North Campus after working at the school for more than 50 years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2022, she was an Associated Collegiate Press finalist in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/studentpress.org\/acp\/2022\/08\/25\/2022-reporter-of-the-year-finalists\/\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reporter of The Year<\/span><\/i><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/studentpress.org\/acp\/2022\/08\/26\/2022-story-of-the-year\/\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sports Feature Story<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> categories and a Pinnacle Award finalist in the <\/span><em><a href=\"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/three-mdc-literary-magazines-selected-as-pinnacle-award-finalists\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Best Profile<\/span><\/a><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> category.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI credit so much of who I am to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Reporter<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d Sanchez said. \u201cThe person that I was when I started working there is nowhere near the person that I am today.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sanchez earned an associate degree in mass communications and journalism from North Campus in 2022 and a bachelor&#8217;s degree in organizational communication from Florida International University in 2024.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The MDC Journalism Speaker Series was launched in February of 2008 to provide students the opportunity to network with working journalists.
