Miami Dade College student publications <\/span>AXIS <\/span><\/i>and <\/span>Miambiance <\/span><\/i>are finalists for the <\/span>College Media Association\u2019s Pinnacle Award<\/span><\/a> in the Two-Year Literary Magazine of the Year category.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The honor acknowledges exceptional content, art, writing, editing and design. Finalists were picked from student work created during the 2024-2025 academic year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Winners will be announced on Oct. 17 during <\/span>MediaFest25<\/span><\/a>, the Fall National College Media Convention, held in Washington, D.C.<\/span><\/p>\n

Miambiance<\/span><\/i><\/a>,<\/span><\/i> Kendall Campus\u2019 literary and arts magazine, which was founded in 1989, is also a Pinnacle finalist in four individual categories for Volume 35: Literary Magazine Cover, Literary Magazine Spread, Portrait for <\/span>Shut Up<\/span><\/i> by Dione Henriquez and Podcast for <\/span>Miambiance with Megan Carrion<\/span><\/i><\/a>, an interview with former Editor-In-Chief Megan Carrion.<\/span><\/p>\n

Winners for individual categories will be announced on Oct. 16.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt feels great to be part of this ensemble of students and contribute something meaningful to the community,\u201d said Salma Gonzalez, head designer for Volumes 34 and 35.<\/span><\/p>\n

AXIS<\/span><\/i><\/a>, the creative arts magazine at North Campus, which was founded in 2003, is a Pinnacle finalist in two individual categories: Literary Magazine Cover and Literary Magazine Spread.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Volume 22 dives into themes of community and connection in a fragmented world through personal storytelling.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are very proud to be nominated among so many excellent creative arts magazines across the country,\u201d said Carmen Bucher, faculty co-adviser of <\/span>AXIS<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In other MDC publication news, Urbana<\/span><\/i><\/a>, Eduardo J. Padr\u00f3n Campus\u2019 creative arts magazine<\/span>, <\/span><\/i>which was launched in 2007,<\/span> was named a finalist in two categories for Volume 18: Literary Magazine Cover and in the Creative Film category for Edward Colmenares\u2019 short film <\/span>AN IDEA<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

Metromorphosis<\/span><\/i><\/a>, <\/span><\/i>the creative arts magazine at Wolfson Campus, which launched more than 30 years ago, was tabbed as a finalist in the Magazine Cover category for Volume 37.<\/span><\/p>\n

The magazine showcases student memoirs that delve into human struggles\u2014including one artist\u2019s experience with being HIV positive\u2014accompanied by evocative art pieces about social conflicts and resilience.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cChaos was the scene for [Volume] 37\u2026 we were living through a very chaotic moment in our country, and the students decided to let people know what was happening,” said Yousi Mazpule, adviser to <\/span>Metromorphosis<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

StoryBytes<\/span><\/i><\/a>, a student-led digital platform at Kendall Campus that features podcasting, film and animation and was launched in 2024, earned four individual nominations.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Vault Episodes<\/span><\/i><\/a>, a podcast series produced by Isabel Paz offering student insights on transfer resources, was tabbed a finalist in the Best Series category.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When Faced with the Barrel of a Gun<\/span><\/i><\/a> by Paz is a finalist in the Best Podcast category, <\/span>Cat Crimes<\/span><\/i><\/a> by Ainhoa Osorio Torres, Angelo Fernandez and Paz is a finalist in the Creative Audio Performance category and <\/span>You\u2019re My American Dream<\/span><\/i><\/a>, an animated production reflecting on Victoria Cuellar\u2019s\u00a0 immigrant experience, is a finalist in Creative Film.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“<\/span>StoryBytes<\/span><\/i> was a metamorphosis for me, a place where students can uncover their potential by exploring diverse artistic mediums,\u201d said Cuellar, who is the podcast\u2019s current president. \u201cReceiving this recognition was staggering\u2026I was overcome with humility.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
