Two Miami Dade College student publications\u2014<\/span>Miambiance <\/span><\/i>and <\/span>The Reporter<\/span><\/i>\u2014have been selected as finalists for <\/span>the Associated Collegiate Press Pacemaker Award<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The honor recognizes overall excellence for student publications. It\u2019s considered by many as the Pulitzer Prize of college media organizations.<\/span><\/p>\n

Judging was based on work produced during the 2024-25 school year. Winners will be announced at <\/span>the ACP Awards Ceremony during MediaFest25 at the Fall National College Media Convention<\/span><\/a> in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 18.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Reporter<\/span><\/i><\/a>, <\/span><\/i>the student newspaper at MDC, was one of nine publications selected as a finalist in the two-year newspaper\/newsmagazines category.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou never know what will happen, so when I heard <\/span>The Reporter<\/span><\/i> was nominated for a Pacemaker I got excited and felt proud of the team and work we did last year,\u201d said Isabella Arce, who served as editor-in-chief of <\/span>The Reporter<\/span><\/i> last year.<\/span><\/p>\n

To be considered, college newspapers submitted three print issues and magazines submitted their yearly publication. The entries were analyzed by three judges.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Reporter<\/span><\/i> has been a Pacemaker finalist the past seven years, winning the award three times in the last four years. Since it was founded in 2010, the paper has won five Pacemakers\u20142013, 2014, 2021, 2022 and 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n

It covers college-wide news, produces a bi-weekly digital newsletter, prints 10,250 copies monthly and has a social media footprint on<\/span> Instagram<\/span><\/a>,<\/span> X<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>TikTok<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Miambiance<\/span><\/i><\/a>, the literary arts magazine at Kendall Campus, was named as one of six finalists <\/span>in the Two-Year Literary Arts Magazine category<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Since debuting in 1989, they have secured Pacemakers in 2009, 2018 and 2022. They\u2019ve also been finalists eight times in the past 10 years.<\/span><\/p>\n

The magazine is also a<\/span> finalist for the College Media Association\u2019s Pinnacle Award<\/span><\/a>. Winners for that honor will be announced on Oct. 17 at MediaFest25.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Volume 35 followed a theme of fantasy and escapism, featuring a cover of a dreamlike wave mixing with clouds over a starry night. They presented topics such as divorce, scholastic burnout and climate change.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI’m really proud of all the work that we’ve done, and I think we’re very deserving of the award,\u201d said Salma Gonzalez, who serves as the magazine\u2019s designer.<\/span><\/p>\n

The publication can be found on <\/span>Instagram<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>TikTok<\/span><\/a>. They are accepting submissions for their 36th volume until Oct 31.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
