{"id":40692,"date":"2025-10-30T13:01:15","date_gmt":"2025-10-30T17:01:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/?p=40692"},"modified":"2025-11-21T09:26:10","modified_gmt":"2025-11-21T14:26:10","slug":"kendall-campus-alumna-wins-emmy-for-apple-tv-series-the-studio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/kendall-campus-alumna-wins-emmy-for-apple-tv-series-the-studio\/","title":{"rendered":"Kendall Campus Alumna Wins Emmy For Apple TV+ Series, The Studio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As Lorena Perez Batista stepped onto the stage at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony in downtown Los Angeles in September, she was overwhelmed with emotion.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cGoing to the Emmys was a very exciting experience,\u201d Perez said. \u201cI feel grateful and lucky to have been a part of this.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 38-year-old, a Kendall Campus alumna, and her music editing team won an Emmy in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.televisionacademy.com\/bios\/lorena-perez-batista\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half-Hour)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> category for the episode <i>The Golden Globes<\/i><\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Studio<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014an Apple TV+ comedy series that explores the behind-the-scenes dynamic of the film industry.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perez served as music editor on the project in the postproduction process, helping bring each episode to life by weaving music into the motion picture, forming an immersive and resonant soundscape.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=EIQuE7JGXU8\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Studio<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">directed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg\u2014became the most awarded debut comedy series, with a record of 13 awards and 23 nominations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As Perez stood among Hollywood\u2019s brightest stars, she found herself thinking, \u201cHow did I get here?\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Born in Punto Fijo, a small town on the outskirts of Venezuela, Latin rhythms pulsated around her, laying the foundation for Perez\u2019s identity as a musician.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a kid, she played instruments such as the cuatro\u2014a four-stringed instrument similar to the ukulele\u2014and danced flamenco, which sparked her love for percussion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But the drums were what truly captivated her.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She improvised a drum set at home, arranging household objects and using pencils as drumsticks. Rhythm became her language\u2014a way to express what words couldn\u2019t.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Her family also played a vital role, providing unwavering support and nurturing her talent by taking her to music lessons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cA core memory that comes to mind is when my sister and I used to go on very long car rides with our family,\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">said Lorena\u2019s brother, Francisco Javier Perez Batista. \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">[She] always took the DJ role with the best taste in music\u2026 we\u2019d end up singing and drumming the whole way.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After graduating high school in Venezuela, her family pushed her to move to the United States to learn English.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She moved to Gainesville when she was 18 and began taking English classes, experiencing independence for the first time. Perez planned to move back to Caracas to study sound engineering but the political situation in Venezuela worsened.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eventually, she moved to South Florida and started attending Miami Dade College. By 2008, Perez had earned an associate degree in music business from Kendall Campus.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cLorena was a standout student from the start. She excelled in the production courses, she played drums in the ensembles, she was a real asset to the program,\u201d said Stephen Quinzi, a senior associate professor at Kendall Campus.\u00a0 \u201cI always knew that she would succeed in the field. I am very proud of her.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2009, Perez transferred to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.berklee.edu\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Berklee College of Music<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Massachusetts to pursue a bachelor\u2019s degree in music writing and production.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After graduating in 2011, Perez spent a few months in Venezuela before moving to Los Angeles to kickstart her career.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;I started assisting a lot of composers. My background allowed me to help composers in many different ways,\u201d Perez said. \u201cI could run a session, edit music, orchestrate, write, play drums on their underscore.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Her versatility, shaped by her college education and cultural influence, opened countless doors. She has worked on projects in film, animation, television, video games and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">live entertainment, including <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">John Wick 3<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Deadpool 2<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Punisher<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dora The Explorer<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perez\u2019s breakthrough moment came in 2022 when Antonio S\u00e1nchez, a fellow Berklee graduate and\u00a0 renowned drummer, invited her to audition for the music editing role on <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Studio<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cEverything I had worked on up to that point kind of prepared me for this job in a very magical way,\u201d Perez said. \u201cIt was wonderful how everything came together.
