The Miami Book Fair<\/a>\u2014the nation\u2019s longest-running literary festival\u2014is back.<\/p>\n

From Nov. 16-23, Wolfson Campus will be home to <\/span>literary events, live music, booksellers, local artisans, food vendors and family activities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s lineup will feature more than <\/span>550 <\/span>acclaimed authors and emerging writers<\/span> from more than 35 countries.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cReading, education, dialogue, and access to books and writers is very important for a free society,\u201d said Lissette Mendez, the executive director of the MBF. \u201cMiami Book Fair continues to champion the American values of freedom and access for all.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The week of festivities launches on Nov. 16 with the <\/span>Opening Day Block Party<\/span><\/i><\/a> with Jump \u2018N Funk billed as America\u2019s Afro Beat Original Party. It will be orchestrated by Philadelphia-based DJ <\/span>Rich Medina<\/span><\/i>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the Book Fair\u2019s signature events, the <\/span>Evenings With<\/span><\/i><\/a> series, will feature one-on-one conversations with journalists, writers and musicians from Nov. 16 to 21.<\/span><\/p>\n

Notable guests will include<\/span> New York Times <\/span><\/i>bestselling novelist <\/span>Daniel Silva<\/b>, country singer <\/span>Kenny Chesney<\/b>, climate activist <\/span>Bill McKibben<\/b> and <\/span>Mercedes Ron<\/b>, author of <\/span>The Culpable <\/span><\/i>(Guilty) Trilogy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Local voices such as<\/span> Asha Elias<\/b>, <\/span>a <\/span>Miami New Times<\/span><\/i> columnist<\/span><\/a> and novelist will be spotlighted\u00a0 in the <\/span>Here In Florida<\/span><\/i><\/a> program.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She will be presenting her second book\u2014<\/span>The Namaste Club\u2014<\/span><\/i>on Nov. 22.<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The satirical novel delves into the world of a yoga retreat set against the colorful landscape of Florida. It was inspired by her time as a yoga teacher.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFlorida is a character in and of itself\u2026 I intend on telling those stories from the perspective of a local,\u201d Elias said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The 42-year-old also serves as co-chair of the <\/span>Next Page Dinner<\/span><\/i><\/a>\u2014an annual dinner event that honors local authors whose work has impacted South Florida\u2019s cultural landscape.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is scheduled to take place on Nov. 21 at the JW Marriott Marquis Miami, 255 Biscayne Boulevard Way.<\/span><\/p>\n

Miami-based multidisciplinary artist and poet <\/span>Oscar Fuentes<\/b> will co-host <\/span>Poetry City: Ciudad Poes\u00eda<\/span><\/i><\/a> with <\/span>Nicole Tallman<\/b>\u2014poetry ambassador for the Miami-Dade County Mayor\u2019s Office\u2014on Nov. 20.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The experience will feature a live jazz trio as well as performances from local poets.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Nov. 23, Fuentes will perform excerpts of his new poetry collection <\/span>Poetry City<\/span><\/i>, which explores love, nostalgia, migration and Miami\u2019s cultural identity.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIn a world that moves too fast and communicates in fragments, poetry reminds us to slow down, to feel, to connect,\u201d Fuentes said. \u201cBecause Miami raised me, every poem I write is somehow a love letter to this city.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Literary showcases spotlighting authors from different cultures will be held from Nov. 16-23. They will be featured in specialized programs such as <\/span>IberoAmerican Authors<\/span><\/i><\/a>, <\/span>ReadCaribbean<\/span><\/i><\/a>, <\/span>ReadingCuban<\/span><\/i><\/a>, <\/span>ReadingEast<\/span><\/i><\/a> and <\/span>Jewish Life & Culture<\/span><\/i><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

From Nov. 19-23, <\/span>Lost Chapter<\/span><\/i><\/a>, a rooftop lounge at the heart of downtown Miami will be open nightly, offering signature drinks, bites and a DJ.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>Street Fair<\/span><\/i><\/a> , a Book Fair staple event, will be held during the closing weekend from Nov. 21 to 23. It will feature international and nationwide booksellers and food vendors.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Local bands, guest singers and poetry performances will perform at the <\/span>Off The Shelf<\/span><\/i><\/a> stage and <\/span>Children\u2019s Alley<\/span><\/i><\/a> will offer interactive, educational and fun activities for kids.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tickets for the Street Fair <\/span>are available online<\/span><\/a> or at the gate. Miami Dade College students, faculty and staff will get free admission with a valid ID.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
