href=\"https:\/\/www.fns.usda.gov\/snap\/supplemental-nutrition-assistance-program\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SNAP<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, is a government assistance program that helps low income families, seniors and people with disabilities pay for groceries.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The federal government shutdown, which lasted <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2025\/11\/12\/g-s1-97607\/house-vote-shutdown-end\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">43 days<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, paused payments of SNAP benefits to millions of Americans, resulting in a large spike of food insecurity for the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcmiami.com\/news\/local\/snap-with-government-shutdown-the-numbers-and-the-impact-on-floridians\/3719701\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">almost three million SNAP recipients in Florida alone<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">United Way Miami is accepting financial donations to help pay for food items, while Farm Share and Feeding South Florida are taking direct food donations and financial donations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For more information, visit
