{"id":41226,"date":"2026-01-22T14:05:28","date_gmt":"2026-01-22T19:05:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/?p=41226"},"modified":"2026-01-22T14:07:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-22T19:07:07","slug":"mdc-journalism-speaker-series-lineup-announced-for-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/mdc-journalism-speaker-series-lineup-announced-for-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"MDC Journalism Speaker Series Lineup Announced For 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A morning news anchor, two investigative reporters and a photo journalist headline the 2026 Miami Dade College Journalism Series.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year\u2019s speakers include NBC 6 morning news anchor <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcmiami.com\/author\/constance-jones\/\"><b>Constance Jones<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, reporter <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.miamiherald.com\/profile\/218644705\/\"><b>Linda Robertson<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who is part of the<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Miami Herald<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Investigative Team, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wlrn.org\/people\/daniel-rivero\"><b>Daniel Rivero<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, an investigative reporter at WLRN and<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Miami Herald photo journalist<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.matiasocner.com\/aboutme\"><b> Matias Ocner<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Episodes, which are 30 minutes each and are posted on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@MDC-TV\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MDC-TV\u2019s YouTube Channel<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, will be filmed in February, March, April and May at the North, Kendall and Wolfson campuses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe are privileged to have a diverse group of journalists to share their expertise with our students at this year\u2019s series,\u201d said Manolo Barco, who founded the series in 2008 and serves as the media adviser to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Reporter<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the student newspaper at MDC.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jones, a two-time Emmy-nominated journalist, will kick off this year\u2019s series on Feb. 27 at 12:30 p.m. at North Campus, 11380 N.W. 27th Ave., Room 4209.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She has worked in New York City, Atlanta, Virginia, Oklahoma City and at WLRN Public Radio in South Florida. Jones was also a colleague of legendary journalist Dan Rather at CBS Evening News.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rivero, who is part of WLRN\u2019s investigative team, will participate in the series on March 20 at Wolfson Campus, 300 N.E. Second Ave., in Room 1610 at 11 a.m.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His reporting has netted him a bevy of accolades including Murrow Awards, Sunshine State Awards and Green Eyeshade Awards. Prior to WLRN he was an investigative reporter and producer on the television series, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Naked Truth<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and a digital reporter for Fusion.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Miami Herald<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> photographer Matias Ocner, a Kendall Campus graduate in 2013, will be the third speaker in this year\u2019s series on April 15 at Kendall Campus in Room M-239 at noon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ocner, who was born in Argentina, has covered <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">natural disasters, immigration, protest movements and various sporting events in the past decade. He was part of the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Herald<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s team that won a 2022 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Reporting for coverage of the collapse of the Champlain Towers South condominium in Surfside.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year\u2019s final guest has worked at the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Miami Herald<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for more than 40 years. Robertson, who spent the first three decades of her career as a sports columnist and reporter, will speak on May 19 at\u00a0 Wolfson Campus, 300 N.E. Second Avenue, in Room 1610 at 11 a.m.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She is currently an investigative reporter. Robertson\u2019s stories have contributed to the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Herald<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> winning Pulitzer Prizes for reporting on the Surfside condo collapse and Hurricane Andrew.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Her writing has been featured in numerous editions of the Best American Sports Writing anthology series and she has covered numerous World Cups, Final Fours, Super Bowls and 13 Olympics.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The MDC Journalism Speaker Series was launched in February of 2008 to provide students an opportunity to meet and network with working journalists.
