Biagio Auricchio is so full of life, when he walks into a classroom the energy changes. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBuon giorno mia piccola familia!\u201d he says as he walks into \u00a0his Elementary Italian class at the Kendall Campus. It means, \u201cgood morning my little family.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

Auricchio has been working at Miami Dade College since 1976. He began as a part-time Italian tutor and started teaching as a full-time Italian and French professor in 1985. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI came here to take a Spanish class and I never left,\u201d said Auricchio. \u201cI\u2019m still here.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He was born in the town of San Giuseppe Vesuviano in Naples, Italy. In 1974, at the age of 17 he moved to Miami with his parents and five siblings in search for a better life. <\/span><\/p>\n

For the first year he worked as a janitor at a hospital with his two sisters, and as a server at the now defunct Mario\u2019s restaurant, at the time owned by his aunt and uncle. <\/span><\/p>\n

At the age of 18, he enrolled in Miami Coral Park Senior High School in search of a football jacket with the letters \u201cC\u201d and \u201cP.\u201d Instead he found what he wanted to do for the rest of his life while giving a presentation in his Spanish class.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI loved it,\u201d Auricchio said. \u201cI loved the attention, people staring at me and liked standing in front of the class.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

He continued his education at MDC where he received his associate’s degree, he pursued his bachelor\u2019s degree in French at Florida International University, and his master\u2019s degree at Florida State University. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s not to like about beautiful sounds and beautiful words, and beautiful sentences,\u201d Auricchio said about languages. \u201cIt\u2019s just a beautiful moment to be able to be caressed by these sounds.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

He applies his passion for languages everyday to teach his students. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s one of the very best teachers ever,\u201d said Hector Vazquez, humanities and music theory professor at Kendall Campus who took four semesters of Italian. \u201cYou don\u2019t realize you\u2019re learning because you\u2019re laughing the entire time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Aside from working from 7 a.m. through 8: 30 p.m. Auricchio works as a server on the weekends at his family\u2019s restaurant, Nunzio\u2019s<\/span><\/p>\n

Claudio Galaz, a french student said he is \u00a0surprised about the professor\u2019s double life. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe makes class interesting and he\u2019s an overall great professor,\u201d Galaz said. \u201c I was really surprised that he works two jobs and owns a restaurant.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

Auricchio wouldn\u2019t have it any other way, he loves his full days. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI think if you love what you do it really doesn\u2019t matter how many hours you put in. You can be physically tired, but mentally you are not,\u201d Auricchio said. \u201cYou always have that fire in you to get up in the morning and start again, which I absolutely adore.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
