The College\u2019s Museum of Art + Design<\/span><\/a> presents <\/span>A Patch of Blue: Illustrations of Oscar Wilde\u2019s The Ballad of Reading Gaol,<\/span><\/i> an exhibit curated by Miami Dade College students enrolled in the Museum Studies Program at the Freedom Tower at 600 Biscayne Blvd. <\/span><\/p>\n

On view through July 31, the show is free and open to the public. The collection, which is on loan from the Wolfsonian-FIU museum, features work from French Symbolist artist Jean-Georges Cornelius, whose paintings and drawings depict the struggles Wilde experienced as an LGBTQ prisoner from 1895-1897. <\/span><\/p>\n

A<\/span><\/i> Patch of Blue<\/span><\/i> refers to the policy of punishing inmates who attempted to look out of their windows at the sky. It later became a symbol of rebellion for both Wilde and Cornelius alike. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
