The Idea Center, located at the Wolfson Campus, 300 N.E. Second Ave., is introducing a new course called DronesUp that will give students the opportunity to pilot a drone as well as understand its technology and application. Live flight sessions with coursework will cover all the rules and regulations needed to become a licensed drone operator. Activities include obstacle courses and flight competitions. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s a new world of technology and possibilities,\u201d said Idea Center marketing assistant Carolina Braunschweig. \u201cAnd it’ll be a whole lot of fun.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Guest speakers will discuss drone applications in real estate, agriculture and government. Student will use drones to make videos, photograph events, fly around a building as well as learn to repair the devices. <\/span><\/p>\n

The course works in partnership with the Eig School of Aviation and Miami Dade College Homestead Campus. \u00a0The eight-week course begins April 9 \u00a0and will be held Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. An optional lab session will be offered from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. \u00a0The non-credit, 15-hour class costs $249.<\/span><\/p>\n

The course is open to the public and any MDC student. There are neither age restrictions nor prerequisites for the course.
